Obama the invisible
Anti-leadership amid world crises

Where is the president? The world is beset. Moammar Khadafy is moving relentlessly to crush the Libyan revolt that once promised the overthrow of one of the world's most despicable regimes.

So where is the president?

Japan may be on the verge of a disaster that dwarfs any we have yet seen. A self-governing nation like the United States needs its leader to take full measure of his position at times of crises when the path forward is no longer clear.

This is not a time for leadership; this is the time for leadership.
So where is Barack Obama?

The moment demands that he rise to the challenge of showing America and the world that he is taking the reins. How leaders act in times of unanticipated crisis, in which they do not have a formulated game plan and must instead navigate in treacherous waters, defines them.
Obama is defining himself in a way that will destroy him.

It is not merely that he isn't rising to the challenge. He is avoiding the challenge. He is Bartleby the President. He would prefer not to.

Man, this guy doesn't get it...one of the most chaotic times in generations, and this guy's going on vacation, talking basketball, and using his bully pulpit for...gender equality?

Should he not get vacation time? Of course he should. But when you're the leader of the free world, appearances matter. More than once, Ronald Reagan cancelled vacation trips to his ranch because it would make him appear callous to the current crises our country was facing. (from his diaries...don't make me get a page number. :D)

But Obama doesn't get it. There is leadership needed.
  • The Middle East is burning...his response? Fill out NCAA brackets, and further muddy whatever the heck policy we're supposed to have.
  • Japan is facing unprecedented catastrophe...yet Obama seems to offer little in heading the world response (perhaps he's waiting on the UN to do it?)
  • Gas prices continue to rise here...his only substantive response is to tap into a reserve not designed for this purpose. And, of course, he refuses to deal with our need for more drilling and refineries. I guess we're supposed to put windmills on our cars.
  • The economy is still sluggish...housing starts are down tremendously this month. Obama's response? He and his tax cheat treasurer keep telling us we're recovering. Oh...and he wants to spend more of your money.
This guy is an absolute joke. I didn't think anyone could beat Carter...who was at least honest, but not up to the job. Obama's got him beat.

God help us all if we put this buffoon back in office.

I agree. Our David Cameron and that ridiculous Frech midget Sarkozy have done all the running over Libya; Cameron in particular whilst flogging them arms to suppress their own people (shurely shome mishtake?) has also been working the other Arab countries over to support a no-fly zone.
