JFK's voting record and how much he was absent for votes while a senator. JFK had said if his party didn't back him, he was going to back Nixon. And then all the mess about how he got in with help from W.Va., Daily, Hoffa and the mob. His playing around made Clinton look like a good kid. And if one takes time to read one will find out he wasn't making many happy and that is why he went to Texas to try and get Senator Yarborough's backing.
The 1960 election was stolen by the democrats in Illinois, Texas, and South Carolina, perhaps Missouri. JFK did two things of merit: cut taxes and stood up to Russia over the missiles but on this he really had no choice.
His biggest mistake was was backing down at the Bay of Pigs. Now Florida is the stateside Cuba so perhaps whoever is talking about Florida seceding is on to something.
You are correct. And Reagan was only about 10% or so more conservative than JFK. I almost didn't vote for Reagan due to his backing of JFK and he had said FDR was his political hero. It is why I say Reagan wasn't a conservative but a liberal, but not by today's standards but by the standards that I grew up with and still believe for the most part.
You are wrong about Reagan. A lot of people were conned by FDR but not my family. The democrats talked about the "Hoooover Times" for years. I believe that even Al Gore brought it up in 2000. It is only recently that it has been pointed out that FDR's tax and spend Socialist policies prolonged the Depression until he got us involved in WWII.
As much as my dad disliked President Truman, he loved Truman's remark that JFK had his ear so close to the ground to see what people wanted and were saying, that JFK's ears were full of grasshoppers. And for the record I believe Truman conservative than Reagan.
Truman was not a conservative. He had one accomplishment that turned him from a mediocre president into one who will be recognized as a great president. He used the A-Bomb to bring WWII to a close. In this he showed more guts than any recent president other than Reagan who brought down the Soviet Union.
I have heard, but can't be sure, that FDR did not make Truman aware of the A-Bomb. He learned about it after FDR died in Ga. with his live in mistress.
