So what is new; democrats been doing that since Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
IMHO, the National Jackass Party started moving in that direction much earlier, probably during POTUS Woody Wilson's time (1913-1921).
Woody tended to favor a lot of things that set the stage for the USA getting on its "slippery slope" to eventual destruction.
Fortunately, most of Woody's ideas never made it into law during his two terms.
I won't try to mention all of them, but (off the top of my balding head) what comes to mind would be his wish that the USA be involved in some kind of "international organization" that would try to "solve" many of the world's "problems."
This was originally a part of his so-called "14 Points" that he presented at the Versailles Conference that was held to deal with the post-WWI's "issues."
What eventually became known as "The League of Nations" was formed. The USA was never an actual part of the LofN because its passage (because it was a part of the Versailles Treaty) was voted down in the US Senate.
The LofN proved to be the failure that many predicted it would be because it could only "recommend" to the nations what it thought was a "nice thing to do."
EX: It "recommended" to post-war Germany that it would be nice if it continued not to occupy the "de-militarized Rheinland." It "recommended" to Japan that it'd be nice if they didn't seek an expansionist foreign policy, especially in Asia.
Well, the "major nations of the world" (i.e., the "victorious" allied nations in WWII) learned from this that it'd be better if "we" had an International Body with power to "enforce" its rulings via military power to "occupy" and/or "actually engage in military combat" in whatever areas it deemed necessary to do so.
That's why what we call the Korean War, is technically considered a "UN Police Action." The US Congress never invoked Article I, Section 8, Clause 10 which states that, "The Congress [and
ONLY IT!] shall have Power To....declare War...."
In fact, the last time that part of our Constitution was ever invoked was in December, 1941. (I guess that means that every other subsequent military conflict in which the US was/has been engaged has been/is
UNCONSTITUTIONAL!! :smilewinkgrin
Anyway, Woody favored other things too, but that's one of his biggest boo-boo's.
