The problem, as I see it, is that each person thinks only they have the truth!

Only they are led by the Spirit of God. So when someone else comes in with a different view of scripture,it is automatically assumed that they are wrong.

I like the statement of Pogo(I think it was him) in the funny papers.

"We have found the enemy and they are us".

Acceptance is the answer.

"The problem" is rightly understanding the text of Romans 14 and 1Cor 8. As pointed out in 1Cor 8 Paul's reference to eating no meat has to do with the Acts 15 command about not eating meat offerred to idols and the gentiles (not the jews) that were "weak" and were actually FOLLOWING the Acts 15 council instruction.

This is an amazing case of Paul differing with the commands of the church in Acts 15 and calling GENTILES weak (and Jews strong) because GENTILES would refrain from eating that meat.

Yet how "very different" is the spin often placed on this as it is inserted into today's context and hence "out of context" with the subject of Romans 14.

How can the Holy Spirit lead people to believe opposite things about Scripture. One must be wrong.

 

That is true - when two people differ in the same church (Like Luther and the Pope) one is right and one is wrong.

In this case - Luther was right.

The "Authority" to understand Truth comes from the Holy Spirit and the Holy Father (you know - GOD the Father).

John 16 makes this clear as does 1John 2.

The concept is just not that difficult. Given 1200 years of the RCC dumping error into the Christian church - the reformers begin an exit out of that error in the 15th century.

Is it "so shocking" that these CATHOLICS that we now call REFORMERS (like Martin Luther, John Calvin, Huss, Wycliff etc) started with the larger more obvious errors and worked their way down without actually weeding out ALL the error that had been handed to them???

Surely that result is the MOST OBVIOUS and expected outcome of reform rather than the "great mystery" that many RC members claim.
