OK, I'm old. Does anyone remember Phil Keaggy?

Actually, I think Bob Dylan once could sing. If you listen to his early stuff. From when he started, especially during his mid 60's electric period, and into the early 70's. Rolling Stone magazine reviewed "Slow Train Coming"(his 1st "christian" record '79 I believe) and called him the greatest rock and roll singer living.

He's never really shown me much as a guitar player, though. Hes pretty much just been a basic rythmn guitar player, to my ears.

He can fingerpick some, though.(Dont think twice, its alright, Buckets of Rain)

He cant sing now, though.

I was never a Dylan fan, don't mind picking through Knockin On Heaven's Door now and then though. My kind of song, slow and only 4 chords


Re: Mike McK's mention of the snopes.com report on the Hendrix/Keaggy urban myth. I think snopes is mostly spot-on, just want to throw 2¢ worth in here and there.

Take Hendrix away from the shattered remains of a cremated Stratocaster, and all accounts suggest that he was the sort of bloke who very likely would have admitted it if he considered another player better than himself. (Not that a bloke who was 14 months old when Hendrix died would know, but anyway... )

What if someone else would have named Hendrix before he was famous? There are probably blokes all over the planet now that could bury Hendrix in ability and for whatever reason we have never heard of them.

I don't think musical style has much to do with the guitarist 'picking order' Rock players recognise classical players, classical players recognise the bluesmen, etc etc..

Ok ok, so that was more like 3¢ worth..blame it on the government & inflation

I remember Larry Norman. Very famous in the Hippie-Jesus days of the early '70s.

 

Keaggy is a gifted artist. I've enjoyed his music for years. I think he's a better singer than some!

Mr. Keaggy's appeal has nothing to do with age... I'm 27... I think it has everything to do with taste. Undoubtedly one of the FINEST guitarists in history, as is evidenced by the fact that Word Entertainment created the Word Artisan label with him in mind. God sure shows off through Mr. Keaggy's playing. And the Father's glorified also. That's one reason I like Mr. Keaggy's music. Just my humble opinion.

Have you ever seen Keaggy in person? If not, go to his web-site, find out when he is going to be near you, and go, go, go!!

You wont regret it. His records are exceptionally good, but they do not show, usually, what he can do with a guitar as much as in a concert. I play the guitar, and if my wife and I go to see some really hot guitar picker she usually says something like "well, you can do what he can!"(Bless her heart...she knoweth not what she sayeth!)

But when we saw Keaggy, she said something like..."Honey, usually you sound as good as the people we see(she doesnt know what she is talking about! ), but....your not as good as that guy is!"

lol! He's incredible!

People at Church reckon I can play too...Praise God for deaf people, it gives me a chance to minister with guitar
