A New Year demanded a New Name to our illustrious band of brothers (and cistern). Many duck lovers took offense at our OLD COOTS CLUB, so we have reorganized it and renamed it.

600 years ago young men and royalty enjoyed the sport of "falconry". They trained birds, hawks, et al to hunt and do battle.

When the men grew too old to train and carry the birds, they were often asked to carry the "cadge" (pronounced "codge") which was a wood perch on a stand and often included a cage of yew. Hence the modern English word "cage" from the same root.

These older men were called "codgers". They played an integral role, working with and supporting the younger men in the fray.

So we have dubbed our group the OLD CODGER'S CLUB. Dues are free, age limit is discretionary, and bibs mandatory. As for bladder control? It all depends.

We are talking about HOW THE WEATHER AFFECTS YOUR BODY (or mind). Do you have more aches and pains in rain/snow type weather, in winter than summer?

Seasonal Affected Disorder from lack of sunlight as your latitude gives you an attitude?

I like rainy weather. But, if there's to much pressure with it, my head feels like its going to explode.

I can feel rain, snow, tornado's coming several days in advance (well, conditions for tornado's at any rate). It's now become a "hobby" of mine, living here in Tennessee to be more accurate than the weather forecasters.

I feel the pressure in my head (esp when bending over to tie a shoe, etc) when I taught back in Minnesota. Don't often feel that in Wyoming.

Don't know if it is altitude or what that would cause such sinus reaction. Lots more trees, pollens, allergens, etc back there. But took d-hist there and never need it in Wyoming.

Being here in the South, we have springs that are full of pollen. Our white car is green every morning. Some days the pollen is so thick, you'd think it was foggy. This has led to my wife and I having constant problems with our sinus' here. It was worse in GA, though. My parent's driveway was always green from pollen in the spring, and then from mold, mildew in the fall. YUK! I always seem to get stuck with Allegra and Allegra D for the related symptoms when I go to the doc.

That is SO true Bro. Tony! When I wipe off my ceiling fans.... GREEN! Even the dust on our furniture is green.

The fall bothers Nick with the leaf mold. I have sinus problems year round.

And to think, my wife and I are considering moving back to Augusta! LOL We are going to once again be known as "the drivers of the little booger". That's what the Mexicans there called our car. We couldn't afford to drive it through the car wash every day.

Our ceiling fans there were terrible. When we didn't have central heat and air and had to have the windows open all the time, everything in the mobile home would be covered in a layer of green. I was glad when we finally had it put in.

Here mold is terrible, too, Diane. It just never seems to get cold enough here to kill it.

Yep... same here. We don't use our central air. We will close up in the dead of winter but I can't afford to pay for air conditioning! We used it a few times this past summer. I'd close the windows and pull down the blinds, turn on all the ceiling fans... and SWEAT!

Growing up in north Louisiana and southern Arkansas, I was always a sickly young'un, and I think that I was just unsuited for that environment. Winters would always get me down. Not long after I joined the Army, I caught a bad case of pneumonia during the winter at Ft. Gordon, Ga., which had a nearly identical enviroment to the one which I grew up in.

Transferred from Ga. to southern Arizona and was sick only once, and that was after returning from leave sick. I got sick while visiting my folks in Louisiana.

I think coastal areas may also have some therapeutic effect for me, because I hardly get sick any more since living on the coast.

We've been told that we probably need to move somewhere like Arizona, New Mexico or S. Calif...somewhere a little more dry in climate to help with the arthritis and sinus'. We've considered it, but things are just too expensive out there. I've got relatives that live out there in Arizona, and my mom, sister and b-i-l lived in Arizona for a while. It was not too bad, but it was just expensive. My wife doesn't think she could find a good enough job and benefits to really help us to benefit from a move like that.

Gib - just where do you live - the south pole?

Gib, ol' boy, I lived in Augusta, GA for many years. In fact, we're considering moving back there next summer because we have famiy there, and only ex-family here. My wife was born and raised there, and we spent a great deal of time in S. Georgia. I've got a sister and brother in law in Waycross right now, and two sisters still living in Augusta. It's really not much different here climate-wise than it is in S. GA.

I'm about as far South Jawja as you can get. If I we're to trip and fall, I'd be in Florida. Florida, now there's a state. Going to Florida is like being up North again.

Serious question: Why would anyone live in that region? Recall the Okefenokee Swamp, right? I'm thinking heat, humidity, bugs and trailers and scratching my head as to living there.

Gimme a sales pitch!

LOL...Dr. Bob, there is no sales pitch for that part of GA or Florida. Their motto is "come get eaten by the gators or the bugs"...LOL

And Gib, you're right. When I was in Florida visiting relatives there, and the several other times, I found more people from New York, PA, ME, MN, MI, etc., than I found native Floridians. It was a shame. Florida, the eclectic state.
