One Woman Man

There is one qualification that is implied which is seldom looked at. If a man is not making disciples then he is not qualified. I have known very few men and women who were actively making disciples that got divorced. I have personally known about 1-2%. One who makes disciples and is praying and in the Word knows what is right. It is hard to be detracted while praying and reading God's word. The likelihood of someone being divorced and making disciples is very small.

I agree with this. But I know some men who have been divorced, and who are now effective in ministry. I agree that it is rare. Character flaws that lead to divorce will many times negate some of the other stipulations for ministry.

I agree. That is the reason why the qualifications are present tense. Not one of us qualified at one time but that has changed due to a number of things.

Indeed, including our salvation...

"As some of you once were..." (1 Pet 2:10; Col 1:21, 2:13; 1 Cor 6:11, etc.)

Just to be clear - do you believe a man who has been divorce is automatically disqualified from being a pastor?

No as long as the marriage did not fail after he was saved because if him. If it happened before his savation he might be qualified. It could be that she left him because she could not stand his calling or faith. What matters is that he is a one woman man. However he as would any candidate needs to be looked at carefully to be sure he is a one woman man.

It's sad when Dean Martin has a better take on marriage than some churches:

With His blessings from above
Serve it generously with love
One man, one wife
One love through life
Memories are made of this
