Online Preaching

Hello.

My fellow churchmates and I are discussing how to proceed with the online preaching. We are thinking of using Zoom though the time is limited if you want to avail it for free. Next, we tried to consider FB messenger but, not all have messengers specially the oldies. Would like to ask you what is the best online platform/app to be used based on your experience. Hope you can help me. Thank you.

I virtually attend two congregations, one livestreams on Youtube and the other on Facebook. I know some churches pre-record their services and then put the edited version up on a video hosting site. One uses Zoom for "coffee after the service". The other uses Zoom for their midweek Bible study.

One of the pastors is absolutely excellent in his virtual pastoral care. He sends daily Whatsapp devotions (including audio) and has put all of us on a prayer routine so that he tells us through the week when we are being specifically prayed for. He fasts once a week for us too. We can send prayer requests which get put on a prayer chain.

Wow! I would highly recommend this to my churchmates. Its just that most are oldies that's why its kinda hard for them to cope up with technologies.

Over this past year & a half, the local church of which I've been a member since the mid-1990s ( www.lighthousenashville.org ) switched from having one single service to having two separate worship service & a time in between each of them for SS and/or our childrens' church. We also televised our 10:15 am service on both Facebook & U Tube. We also set up on Zoom a means for having some of our SS &/or our weekly Bible study/prayer "Life Group" meetings. We also had a separate section of our auditorium set aside for folks who wished to wear a mask & as best we could, the remainder of our auditorium we urged to have some sort of "Social Distancing." Given that our membership (& visitors) are more of a transient community ("Music City USA" tends to do that.), this seemed to work out OK for us. On May 9, 2021, LCF reverted back to a single unified Sunday AM worship service with SS classes starting at 9:00 & then our 10:15 morning worship service. We still plan to televise the worship service because either our shut-ins still cannot be in attendance every Sunday, or the work schedules for some of our members (PA's, police, etc.) don't always permit some of our members to regularly attend them. This seems to be working for LCF, but each local church should decide for themselves is MHO.

For us, we separate the adults from youngsters and we did apply different approach for each. Since the younger generations are tech savvy, we used the platforms they are most active and that is FB Messenger and Zoom. While for the adults, we are using the gmail. Though, this also doesn't work for all that's why we are still trying difference approaches.

Interesting, so what gets sent by Gmail? Is it a video or a sermon transcript? I have to say, email has truly disappeared from my life after leaving university! Strange how it used to be part of my daily routine.

Maybe a sermon transcript only since there is a limited mb of video to upload in Gmail. Unless, you are going to save it in google drive then share it to the others. But, that would be tasky.

Rather than Google Drive you might find uploading to Youtube easier. You can upload it as "Unlisted" which means only those who receive the link will be able to view it - you don't need to worry about other members of the public stumbling across it and causing problems. A lot of churches have gone public with a missional purpose, but it's perfectly reasonable for a church to want to keep things private instead. Then you just send the Youtube link via email and you don't have to worry about the videos taking up any space in anyone's inbox or cloud drive.

I am extremely ignorant of matters technical, but my colleagues tell me that YouTube is the best vehicle.
We record and broadcast the sermons live, and then record them. I seems to work pretty well.
