Coupla belated observations for Jim1999. I was not particularly attempting to extol Torrey M. Johnson by identifying him as the Founder of YFC. Rather, the original remark was to differentiate him from four others of my list with 'gravel voices' who were primarily on Radio, and the fairly well known Dr. Barnhouse. I would agree with you to a degree. I was aware of the involvement from the early days of Billy Graham in the organization even becoming the first full time staff member of the fledling YFC. I was aware of the name Charles Templeton, but knew little of him. I identified TMJ as the founder, for it would seem to be consistent with usual usage. The 'roots' of YFC go some years before the actual 'organization'. And cetainly others were involved in this, including Dr. Edman, who I believe was then President of Wheaton. Dr. Torrey Johnson, of whom I know little personally, I believe suggested some sort of evangelistic group and gathered a group to explore something like this during the 30's. He was chosen as the chairman of the ad-hoc committee that arose from this. He was, as you said, one of the three you mentioned, of the actual founding of this as 'Youth for Christ'. And became its first official president. Seems like a logical tag, to me.
You also mentioned another organization. "I'm your friend, Theodore Epp, inviting you to..." I loved listening in my college days to him, G. Christian Weiss, and Ord Morrow on 'Back to the Bible'. I wish I could hear more of their like today. Dr. Epp could make Dr. McGee sound like sandpaper. Thanks for that little side trip to 'Memory Lane'.
