I have made arrangements to be an organ donor, but after reading this article I'm rethinking my position on it.

I think organ donors should be able to specify who they wish to donate to. That would solve the dillema of who should get priority.

My entire body is donated to science If it can help stroke victims or diabetics, I am pleased..It sure saves on funeral costs.

Cheer,

Jim

What happens if I die, one of my organs is placed in an unbeliever, and then the rapture happens?

lets turn that around. A non-believer gives an organ to a believer just before the rapture.

suppose it was a kidney (the donor survives) and while they are both still on the table, the rapture occurs:saint:

I am guessing a lot of people do not realize that in order to donate most organs, you must still be technically alive. They cannot take your heart or lung and some other organs if you are dead. So they take out your organs they want while you are still alive, then pull the plug.

Therefore, in states that lean strongly toward not keeping someone alive (like here in VA), it is risky to be an organ donor. They might take your organs too soon.

I am not nor do I plan to be an organ donor.

I guess in the USA you dont have coroners to declare one dead and sign the death certificate.

They can keep a heart pumping without a person being alive. Sometimes the heart travels a few miles before being transplanted.

Jim

This the reason ia m not an organ donor alos. But my husband knows what I want, so when they said I'm gone, he can do what he wants.

I guess part of the reason why I don't believe in donating my organs is fear that I might still be alive when they cut me open. While I prefer to be buried when I die, I could care less what happens to my carcass.

If there was a family member of mine that needed a kidney or something, I could do that. I just don't like being in hospitals. The only way I'll go is if my life is in danger or if a family member is having a major surgery. My mother took offense at me for refusing to go to the hospital when she was having a non-cancerous tumor removed from her arm.

I became an organ recipiant at the age of 48 and for the past 12 years have lived a near normal life.

I will be a donar and frankly can't imagine any Christian being involved in such a silly discussion as this. Isn't God still soverign and in control of your life?

I am so blessed that in August of 97, when a family of a healthy young accident victem made the decision to live their beliefs and not just discuss their silly superstitions, I was chosen to carry their loved one's organ for the rest of my life. Heaven save the needy persons of the world from this kind of ignorant bias.

The next one needing an organ could be your child. Or even you. Are you going to refuse one?

What I posted was not from ignorance. I worked for 2 yrs. for an attorney who specialized in euthansia. Many times, this comes down to when is a person declared dead. That has to be done even though the person is still alive. If the organs are desired, there is no safeguard to keep the person alive.

Yes, I believe God is sovereign enough for someone declared dead to not be dead and come out of it - it's happened before.

Frankly, I do not want my organs taken out while I'm still alive (I am not speaking of donation of organs like kidneys but the donation done when you are alive but declared dead).

I guess in the USA anything is possible. That's why lawyers do so well. There is a huge difference betwen someone being dead and keeping organs "alive" for transplant purposes.

Jim

The body medically has to be alive in order for the organs to be useful Jim. the point is, at what point does a doctor declare a person dead, in order to harvest their organs before it's too late for the organs. Once the body has died the organs are not usable.

Wouldn't a living will prevent this, Donna? For example, if someone has given instructions to pull the plug after they've been on life support for a certain amount of time, would that work?
