I've had it. Our government is broken. Only armed citizens can fix it. Armed with withheld tax $$$. Can I be shot for suggesting it ? Or should I just continue to shell out 30% of the money I earn, and hope things will get better ?

My name is Curtis Rathburn, of Missoula Montana, and I have had it with the miscreants in D.C. I am tired of paying taxes to fund the games people are playing with the lives of my brother and his fellow service people, and it seems to me the only way to stop it is to stop the money going in. I am not ashamed of it. I am more ashamed of a country that will jail the likes of Kent Hovind, and will let Ted Kennedy walk (or staggar).

BTW, nice $4000 pay raise you voted for yourselves.

Brother Curtis,
The ONLY reason there is not the type of reaction that you refer to is the power of automatic deduction of federal, state, social security, and medicare taxes from your pay check.

The town in which I work cannot have income taxes withheld due to law, and you ought to see the trouble the local government has getting their money.

Try this image on for size. Say they paid you your full gross pay in cash. Then as you left work, you had to shell out in 20's the federal tax at one window, the state tax at the next window, then social security, and medicare. That would put the reality of what is going on right in everyone's face. Use your imagination as to the reaction, especially after watching the inept idiots in Washington from both parties use our tax dollars for protecting their greed and power structure, and not for the good of the American people.

Anyone who thinks any of these slobs care about our troops or any other American needs to wake up. Bravo to Brother Curtis. No, I wouldnt delete this thread. Magnify it.

Hm, I was with you until you mentioned Hovind.

I know. Hovind's a much bigger threat than drunk drivin' secretary killers. Or child rapists, or any number of other felonies our leaders have committed. We gotta shut up the folks who try to do with their tax monies what our original fathers did.

This war is nothing more than a way to get elected, stay elected, and keep others from being elected. It's made me completely sick.

Thanx, Saurneptune.

Amen!

Now here's a thought. We are going to escalate what we give to charity/church this year. Would rather give it to them than the slobs in our corrupt government to finance a war we don't believe in, build the largest embassy in the world in Baghdad (to the tune of billions), fund Planned Parenthood (for abortions) and fund the UN (for abortions and God knows what else). So, if we increase our giving, perhaps we will lower our taxes liability (0 liability being the goal) - at least until Congress passes a law that charitable contributions are no longer tax deductible. Any CPAs on board to analyze this approach???

<edited to say: Would it be worth it to pull money out of savings just to give more to our church so we could claim the deduction - we aren't making much off of interest anyway because we don't have much in savings....>

Another issue would be that companies deduct taxes from employees, so we would need their backbones, as well. I don't think most employers would co-operate. That would cut into their kickbacks.

It's a nice thought. We would need most of America, and most of America is too worried about Paris Hilton.

Nothing is going to change for two reason.

First, half the economy is under the table and untaxed. The people who don't pay will not vote for a change.

Second, the AARP and the NEA can swing any national election. They will not vote for a decrease of their pay and payments.

So the people of the U.S. can spend at least 30K per year to house you in prison?
