They followed safety precautions except they sang hymns with uncovered mouths and noses.

Frankfurt, Germany

After several days of silence, the Frankfurt Baptist Association wrote on Monday about the 107 known corona infections that had occurred after a service in the club's own prayer house on May 10. On the homepage it says in an "information letter" that one is "deeply dismayed and sad that the infection has found its way into the community and spread with a strong dynamic".

The association also states that "separate and controlled entrances and exits were used at the meeting, appropriate signs were attached, sufficient disinfectants were available and the distance of 1.50 meters was observed". The two large Christian churches have agreed on such hygiene and distance rules with the authorities and politicians. On this basis, public services have been permitted again in Hesse since May.

No mouth-nose protection during worship

During the meeting on May 10, contrary to the instructions, there was singing together. Experts advise against this, in order not to increase the risk of infection through droplet transmission. In retrospect, "it would have been appropriate for us" to do without singing together, "says the association's letter. No mouth-nose protection was worn during the service.

The church where I am a member will start having outside services in the parking lot on June 7 with chairs(or you can stay in your car) and early in the morning to beat the south Arkansas heat. The chairs will be spaced out so that families can sit together.

They should rename it the talking and singing disease so that people understand how the disease is spread.

Or maybe the coughing, sneezing, and handshaking disease.

But, then again, I suppose that's true of the flu, along with the "common cold."

Paul said to be present with Christ is gain.

Let me know about the good news.

Just worrying about God’s plan gets believers no where. Just being a number in some human database is bad news.

Need way more details on this. How many went into the service already infected? What were their symptoms? How many were kids? How many were in a risk group? Are any now being hospitalized?

Also, how did they find this out? Did they test the entire congregation after the fact? Did they test before and after?

Something about this is ringing fake news.

Number was not reported.

How many were kids? How many were in a risk group?

Vladimir Pritzkau did not want to give any information about the total number of parishioners.

What does being in a risk group have to do with the ability of catching the virus?

What were their symptoms?

Symptoms of coronavirus.

Are any now being hospitalized?

Vice-President of the Gospel Christian Baptist Church, Vladimir Pritzkau, said there were six people in hospitals.

Also, how did they find this out? Did they test the entire congregation after the fact? Did they test before and after?

It's not difficult to figure out. I presume most people where sheltering in place with no symptoms, went to the church service and several days later began showing symptoms. Then it was simply a matter of contact tracing to figure out the church was where they acquired the virus.

Germany is the leader in testing and has been since Day One. I presume they tested everybody.

Yes, we know. Anyone that is said to have coronavirus, showing symptoms of coronavirus, or died of cornonavirus is likely lying because they want to get Trump thrown out of office.

Your paranoia over this illness is curious. Do you fear the flu the same way? You should, it's much more dangerous for children.

Again, we need details. Did the virus spread at the Church or before they got there? You should be interested in that question.

But the idea that a church opens and 100 people get infected is propaganda. Even you should have trouble believing this.

And where is the documentation that 6 people were hospitalized from this. That also sounds very fishy. Come on, ITL, there has to be a skeptic in there somewhere.

You are not a mind reader. I am not paranoid about the virus.

Do you fear the flu the same way? You should, it's much more dangerous for children.

Since I don't fear the coronavirus, I don't "fear the flu the same way."

I'm going to trust that the Germans know how to do contact tracing and the virus was propagated at the church.

But the idea that a church opens and 100 people get infected is propaganda. Even you should have trouble believing this.

A COVID-19 superspreader unknowingly infected 52 people with the new coronavirus at a choir practice in Mount Vernon, Washington, in early March, leading to the deaths of two people, a new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report finds.

The choir practice happened on March 10, roughly two weeks before the state's Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee issued the March 23 "stay home, stay healthy" executive order, which barred social gatherings and nonessential travel as a way to stem COVID-19 infections.

While the choir members took a few precautions at the practice, such as not hugging or shaking hands, these measures fell short of protecting them from the virus.

The vice president of the church association in Frankfurt, Germany is the source for the number of people hospitalized.

You've trusted every paranoid theory so far. You even embraced the 6% nonsense for a period of time.

If true, stuff like this happens. We've see entire cruise ships get infected with the flu.

You're not going to stop this virus. You can shut down for eternity, it won't stop til Christ returns.

You've trusted every paranoid theory so far. You even embraced the 6% nonsense for a period of time.

You have a nasty habit of interpreting what others say in whatever manner suits your agenda. I NEVER said I believed the death rate of 6% was accurate; I merely said that 6% was the number you acquired when you did the simple division of deaths per people tested. The caveat, of course, is that the total number of people tested was insufficient to support a 6% death rate.

I never said the virus could be stopped. I never said I was for an eternal lock down. I've been saying for about a month that we should reopen the economy. This is at least the second time (probably the third time) I've specifically said this directly to you within a post. Yet, you continue to misrepresent my position.

That's not what I recall. You defended the guy spouting this nonsense. Then you reluctantly admitted that 6% was not correct. That's why I said it was for a period.

Again, this is not the message I recall.

There is zero proof that even a single person contracted the virus at that church service.

Approaching Flaming. Caution is not paranoia.

Paranoia has crippled our nation and the world. As the FDR saying goes, “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” So true in this case.

The original reason for staying closed was to prevent hospital overrun. Now it's saving every life and finding a cure. This is no longer caution. It is a concerted effort to keep the population paranoid. It's going to persist until election day.

It depends on the people and the environment.

I believe we need to open and took measures too far. But we still have to go forward with caution.

I still want documentation about the 6 hospitalizations.

Vice-President of the Gospel Christian Baptist Church, Vladimir Pritzkau, said there were six people in hospitals. The others are at home. "We canceled all meetings. Services are now only available online, ”said the 64-year-old. "It is a difficult situation for us." The service was on May 10th. The "Frankfurter Rundschau" had previously reported.

How many visitors came to the service , he "can not say exactly," said Pritzkau. "But we have followed all the rules." There were disinfectants, the prescribed distance had been observed.

With that, I agree. Especially for the sake of those at risk. I'm all for caution.

That said, the article is bogus: "Over 100 Infected with Covid-19 After Worship Service." I'll be very curious how this story evolves, in fact it's already evolving.

Here's an english account of the incident from Friendly Atheist. 107 COVID Cases Have Been Traced Back to One Church Service in Germany. Notice the nuanced way they report it.

At least 107 people have been found to be infected with the new coronavirus after some of them attended Sunday services at a church in Frankfurt two weeks ago, according to German officials, highlighting the growing risk of new outbreaks of the virus as Germany loosens restrictions on public gatherings. (emphasis mine)

The 107 number isn't all Christians. They're supposedly people who came in contact with the Christians. The article goes on to say:

Your religion isn’t worth all those innocent lives.

Maybe these pastors eager to open their churches could do us all a favor and replace their own sermons with pleas from current COVID patients from their hospital rooms. Maybe then the parishioners would realize how selfish they are by ignoring epidemiologists and putting their families and communities directly in the path of the virus.

Sounds like some serious scapegoating. Let's see how this story continues to evolve.
