I'm healthy....well, not really but not so bad. I've taken this time to tile a couple of floors and work on the yard. I've gone fishing (fresh water a few times, surf fishing a few times), gone crabbing, been to the mountains a couple of times and to the beach several times. With that, I agree. Especially for the sake of those at risk. I'm all for caution.
That said, the article is bogus: "Over 100 Infected with Covid-19 After Worship Service." I'll be very curious how this story evolves, in fact it's already evolving.
Here's an english account of the incident from Friendly Atheist. 107 COVID Cases Have Been Traced Back to One Church Service in Germany. Notice the nuanced way they report it.
At least 107 people have been found to be infected with the new coronavirus after some of them attended Sunday services at a church in Frankfurt two weeks ago, according to German officials, highlighting the growing risk of new outbreaks of the virus as Germany loosens restrictions on public gatherings. (emphasis mine)
The 107 number isn't all Christians. They're supposedly people who came in contact with the Christians. The article goes on to say:
Your religion isn’t worth all those innocent lives.
Maybe these pastors eager to open their churches could do us all a favor and replace their own sermons with pleas from current COVID patients from their hospital rooms. Maybe then the parishioners would realize how selfish they are by ignoring epidemiologists and putting their families and communities directly in the path of the virus.
Sounds like some serious scapegoating. Let's see how this story continues to evolve.
For me this has been a good vacation (except for the tile part).
But my mother and aunt have health issues and are isolated. They venture out to pick up groceries they have called in. That's about it.
I agree that we need to get things going again. And I even agree the brakes were hit a little too hard.
What concerns me is reading thread after thread by Christians (not you and not necessarily here) who treat people like my mother as an acceptable loss.
Again, I know that is not you based on your character. And I pretty much agree with what you have said. We just have to think of those who are suffering. Some are being reasonable cautious, and perhaps some out of unreasonable fear and not knowing which "science" to believe. But they are suffering all the same.
