So teleprompters are not ok, after all she criticized Obama for using them, but it is all right to have crib notes written on your hand. More hypocrisy? Maybe, but more likely just not thinking again.

The fact that Palin had to refer to crib notes on hand is especially ironic, after she jokingly criticized Barack Obama for his use of a teleprompter to give speeches. The vast majority of modern-day politicians use teleprompters when addressing an audience.

Even Teddy Roosevelt used hand notes. What's your point, here ? Can't argue with the substance of what she saod ? Did it go over your head ?

Obama can't even talk to grade schoolers without his every word spelled out for him. Hardly an apt comparison.

That's the difference. We argue policy with Obama, and the left uses notes, and husbands on Palin.

Liberals have great trouble making legitimate comparisons.

So you're saying there is no difference between writing your talking points down and having your entire speech written out for you so that you just read (in the President's case, reading it well) your entire speech.

I don't think it is Gov. Palin who is not thinking.

I see nothing wrong with using a teleprompter. I see nothing wrong with using crib notes.

I do see wrong in making fun of one person using a prompt and then, in turn, using a prompt. It makes her look silly and sophomoric.

As far as substance, she was simply a politician saying what her followers wanted to hear. There really was no substance. There almost never is any substance when a politician speaks to a convention.

She probably knew what questions were coming and the crib notes were there so she would not forget what to emphasis. As of this morning the the "Minute Men" have not responded to questions about her being told ahead of time, as many politicians are, what questions would be asked.

I find it highly amusing to see the hoops her 'worshipers' jump through for her.

Here are some other quotes on what others are saying:

Sarah Palin
was back in 10th grade biology class yesterday -- using cheat notes on her hand during the Q&A following her speech at the Tea Party Convention in Tennessee.

By now I suspect many of you have seen the picture of Sarah Palin's left hand with her scribbled crib notes. I'd embed the picture but MyDD5 doesn't seem to allow that functionality but you can view the image over at Andrew Sullivan'sThe Daily Dish.

On her hand she scribbled four points: "Energy," "Budget [crossed out] Cuts," "Tax" and "Lift American spirits."

The fact that she wrote these points suggests that Q&A session with Judson Phillips was staged but that's not really the story here. The takeaway is that those notes were in response to the question on her three top legislative priorities.

Now think about that. It's not exactly a hard question and it's not like she was being asked policy specifics or hard facts. She was asked generalities.

Shoot, what’s the answer to that one? This guy just paid me 100 grand for a speech and a question and answer session. What’s he asking me? Maybe I can get away with saying death panels, Socialism and where’s his birth certificate. Oh, wait, I wrote some crib notes on my hand—energy, that’s it! Whew.

This is just a few, there are a lot more if you care to look.

All speakers should use notes of some sort. That is why I don't criticize Obama for his use of the teleprompter or Palin for her use of crib notes.

Having said that, Obama's total dependence upon teleprompters is a bit odd.

I have suggestions for future threads:

  1. Palin doesn't use handrail while climbing stairs.
  2. Palin doesn't use handrail while descending stairs.
  3. Palin sold used textbooks at University of Idaho.
  4. Palin used college money for makeup and beverages.
  5. Palin husband uses snowmachine instead of dogs.
  6. Palin unaware of husband's carbon footprint.
You don't need to wait for any credible reports. Oh, here's another one. I don't have any substantive facts but i heard somewhere that Sarah Palin won't use Sharpie's markers because she is bothered by the smell. So here's a suggested thread title:

7. Palin opposed to jobs in Shelbyville, TN!

No one's claiming anything about that. You're not making legitimate comparisons. What you're doing is setting up a strawman.

Kinda makes one think of the dialogue of satan with God re: Job.

When one accusation was (is) proven ridiculous, he made (makes) up a new one that tried (tries) to ignore the first slap-down.:rolleyes:

PDS at its finest!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

(Maybe he figured that BDS no longer was a viable attribute????)

As if saying that she is hypocritical or not using her brain because she uses literally hand written notes instead of a teleprompter is not a straw man argument. I am not fan of the Governor. I think she's a light weight, but she is a sumo wrestler compared to the original thought in this thread.

Are/were you so understanding and liberal about Obama using a teleprompter?

Actually, yes... except to his 5th grade audience.

I use notes to preach from, so I understand the President would use notes also.

I just think you're the typical leftist who wants to knock any conservative down and you grabbed this silliness.

A man who needs a teleprompter to talk to grade school kids has either an ego problem or ...

... wait a minute- yup, that's it in a nutshell.

Obama is not an eloquent speaker. He can deliver well, but he is an average speaker. He is also a liar. The teleprompter criticisms are a response to the grossly inflated opinions published concerning his oratory skills.

Can't slip one past you now can we? In the grand scheme of things what does it matter if Palin uses notes? Does it really matter? Did she really criticize President Obama for using a teleprompter? I don't personally recall hearing or reading where she did. Any citations to support this?

This run on Palin threads reminds me of when I used to take my Mama to the hair dresser. You would have thought the world was coming to an end with the passionate claims from the Q-tips, "Did you see that blouse Louise wore to church? I swear I saw her wearing it at bridge club just two weeks ago. Oh, my!"

Yes, she did mock Obama.

And now we are told she was using a teleprompter also. So not only did she need a teleprompter but hand crib notes also. Now that would also be all right, but not after mocking the president.

Tell me the last time a politician giving a speech at a convention did not use a teleprompter?

The teleprompter did not break
Sarah Palin delivered a powerful speech last night, but she did not "wing it."

Which is what Erick Erickson, citing sources close to McCain, has written on his blog, RedState.

Erickson writes that "the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Gov. Palin was in the speech."

Perhaps there were moments where it scrolled slightly past her exact point in the speech. But I was sitting in the press section next to the stage, within easy eyeshot of the teleprompter. I frequently looked up at the machine, and there was no serious malfunction. A top convention planner confirms this morning that there were no major problems.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/0908/The_teleprompter_did_not_break.html

No, it does not matter if Obama uses a teleprompter or if Palin uses crib nots on her hand.

But it is hypocritical to mock someone for using a prompt and then using a prompt herself.

By the way, I will show her as much slack as some on the board show Obama? OK?
