The problem with drawing lines where no specific lines are drawn in scripture is we are then doing the Holy Spirits job.

The principles of modesty are in scripture, and no one here is against modesty, but it is up to the individual to interpret them.

Drawing lines for people is what has made the church lazy.
They don't have to struggle for themselves with the Holy Spirit.
All they have to do is obey someone else.

God gave us a mind, and expects us to use it.
In my opinion, I draw the line at loose fitting clothes, even if it is jeans.

Anything that a woman, or man wears to get the opposite sex to turn their heads and drool is wrong.

I sure do. There are many fine examples of Godly women in the Holy Bible with many wonderful characteristics, deeds and duties. However, save for the unmarried maidens, I don't know of any examples of Godly women who were doing the secondary things right, who didn't have the primary thing right.

Lucy fer needed to find Christ. She had no business being a psychiatrist, she was quite mean to Charlie and she should have courted Schroeder rather than flirted with him all the time. She did have one thing going for her though, accept for when she was playing baseball (and how realistic is that since we all know how girls throw) she typically wore dresses. ;)

Back to Mr. Newman's question...If Lucy wore spandex would this have been acceptable clothing to God?

Spandex pants in the form of exercise clothing that is covered by a loose-fitting shirt worn by a women's only exercise class is fine.

Spandex/Latex material for a scuba diver is fine.

Spandex for biking shorts are fine.

Spandex in the form of a man's Speedo or a woman's bikini, in my mind, is not acceptable unto God.

It's not the material. It's the purpose of the garment and the intent of the wearer. I know no other intent of a man who wears a barely-there Speedo or a woman who wears a there-so-bare bikini other than flaunting the body.

Tamar was completely wrapped up in clothing, the bible says so, and her face was covered. Her garment, which exposed nothing, not even her face was unacceptable unto God because of the purpose of the garment....which was to signify that she was for sale.

It's the purpose of the garment and the intent of the heart which makes people immodest.

I've said it before time after time. I am opposed to redundancy.

The title of this thread reminds me of that "hair in a can" product that was really spray paint used to cover baldness.  I guess it's purpose was to cover "naked" heads.:D

There really ought to be a label on spandex with a warning for weight. There is nothing decent about walking behind a 250 lb. person in spandex in the mall. Not to mention that it could be dangerous is the seams popped.:tonofbricks:

Why does it need to be covered by a loose fitting shirt and in a women's only exercise class?

It would be immodest otherwise!!
Seriously, the command to modesty doesn't only apply around men, but everywhere...

    Anyway, can you say, lesbians?

So, would our more conservative folks have "culottes in a cup?"

Sorry. I'm off my meds again.

    Ha!!

Honestly, that wasn't what I was think of. I said a women's only exercise class because I don't think that men and women ought to be working out together.

I said a loose covered top not because of seducing other women, but because from preventing other women to be forced to watch one "jiggle" during the aerobic dancing.

And that is not a pretty sight! Especially when it's me doing the jiggling!
