Parking at church

Since there is a poll about parking cars at home I thought I'd make one about parking at church.

Where do you usually park your car at church?

Anyways: I park as close to the door as I can....because more often than not I'm carrying a guitar or 3, amp, and big bag of tricks, also sometimes video camera and dvd recorder... Add to that my mum is 76 and doesn't walk as well as she used to so handy for her to be closer to door.

Our biggest parking lots are adjacent to the new Children's Building and are a long walk to where I'm going, and have only one way to get in or out; so I don't park there if anywhere else is available. We have a smaller lot that is between the main road toward town, where it forks, so we have to cross the one-way traffic to go to or from the buildings (main auditorium is the closest of these). This is where I usually park. And we have an arrangement with law enforcement to have an officer there directing traffic on the crosswalk [I suppose this violates 'separation of church and state'].

We don't have a designated "Pastor's Space." If we did, I'd change it to a guest space on Sundays. I park about as far from the main entrance as I can. BUT, I do park in the same space every Sunday.

I park as far away from the door as I can. I just wish more members would do the same. A visitor or guest is not gonna walk LONG distances to get to the door. They'll just go on to Denny's.

Ron drops me off because I have to be there 30 minutes before church starts and then he goes and gets my mom. I've never asked if he drops her off, but we do walk to the back 40 when we all leave together.

We park in the back, adjacent to the horse stalls, hence, whenever we drive by a farm, we say.....

We don't have parking spaces.

Our lot is gravel and on the side of the church.

There is overflow parking on the grass behind the kitchen.

There is an auto parts store next door which basically serves as the property line; the parking lot/driveway is about 30 feet wide and between the parts store and the church.

The pastor usually parks in front of the kitchen on the grass behind the church. I usually park midway down the lot next to the parts store, depending on when I arrive (if I'm first one there, I park at the back corner of the parts store in our parking lot, near our back door). Several of the older members use the parts store parking lot as it is paved and they can walk easier. Everybody else parks wherever.

We don't have handicapped, pastor, visitor, or any other type of parking. If there's a spot where your car will fit, you may park there.

But I must admit I get to church 30 minutes hearly
to be sure I get that parking space. (if i came on time,
i'd still get a fairly good parking spot).

I usually park on the far side next to the dumpster, which is kind of strange now that I think of it because it's on the complete opposite end from our Sunday School class. But I don't have to worry about old people banging their doors into my car .

My wife usually drives because I have a heart condition. Our Pastor lets us park as close to the door as possible so I don't have that long of a walk.:jesus:

I usually park in a handicapped space (we have several) and yes, I have a permanent sticker.

When I'm not having breathing problems, I just park as close to the door as I can.

I have trouble walking distances.

I always park in the back of the lot 1) because I'm healthe and can walk from the back, and 2) I want to leave the closer spots for visitors.

We have a Pastors slot that I can use if the wife isn't coming but since I'm an early arriver I usually get the pick of the lot.

This is the funniest post.... You park anywhere so you come early so you can park anywhere... :laugh: :laugh:


You're right, most people come late to Church so even if you do come right on time you can get a good slot and a pick of the pews.

Good to see you guys after a month or so away...

Our staff parks across the street from the church and walks a bit, saving the "real" spots for those physically more restricted, guests, and other members (in that order).

Our church has several converted golf carts that take members out to their cars. This has helped us greatly...it allows, for instance, a mom of three kids to park in the upper lot far away from the building, yet not have to walk any further than the "front row" parkers.

If any of you are in larger churches, or churches with spread out facilities, "people movers" such as what we have might be excellent investments.

It certainly solves much of our parking woes.
