Good for him.
"There is sometimes a real tension between wanting to bear witness to Christ and at the same time avoiding situations which may give the impression that our differences with respect to who God is, who Jesus is, how he deals with us, and how we get to heaven, really don't matter in the end.

From what I read, I see nothing to apologize for, except for going against his denomination requirements.
I'm glad I'm not part of a denomination - as a SBC pastor, and I see fit to be involved in joint service, I would do so - and would not apologize for bringing the gospel to those who need it.

I was wondering when I started reading the Yahoo link if it was a Missouri Lutheran? They have a rule that they are not to do things like that. One almost got fired a few years ago for going to a 9/11 event in Yankee Stadium and praying. The Lutherans consider this activity syncretistic, or something like that. That preacher in Conn. had to apologize or he would have been fired.

Here is the link on the Yankee Stadium one.
