That was my angle the whole time. I obviously didn't do a good job declaring it.

I do know that if a congregation spent as much time praying for and supporting their pastor, as they do knitpicking him, it would become an unbelievably strong church in the Lord.

There was a laddie in college named Breeze,
Weighed down with BA's and BD's,
Said the doctor, " It's plain,
"You are killing yourself by degrees."

    Works both ways!

    Cheers,

    Jim

Why is it that a lot of churches want a man with a doctorate, but if you make reference to the fact that you have one, even in a joking manner, you are elevating yourself above the congregation?

A good preacher does not have to advertise his degrees of learning, he demonstrates it as he preaches the word. This doesn't mean using 50 dollar words either. A simple sentence can be as complex as a long complicated diatribe.

I never allowed a church to advertise my degrees. They weren't pertinent to the message.

I rather liked how it was in England where a medical doctor was called Mister. To call him Doctor was an insult.

    Cheers,

    Jim
