Pastors Can Now Endorse Political Candidates

Article from The New York Times.

In what appears to be one step closer to a repeal of the Johnson Amendment, the I.R.S. says that pastors can now freely endorse political candidates from the pulpit without having the 501(c)(3) tax exemption revoked.

BUT should we?
I would never endorse a man by name
Rather, I would mention moral issues - then encourage
members to vote for those issues.

Let me throw out a "what if
Candidate A -- Pro- life - but would preform a homose/ual marriage
Candidate B -- Pro-abortion -but would vote against homose/ual marriage

Whom would you support?

If I absolutely had to pick one of the two? Candidate A.

Your post reminded me of an event - some 20 years ago. I was at the laundry mat (about midnight) and there was a lady there as well. We got talking - and she mentioned that she was pro-abortion and that she was a lesbian. At one point - I mentioned it was easier for me to accept her as a homose/al than her belief as a pro-abortion. - What I appreciate the most is that we had an interesting and reasonable discussion even if we did disagree.

Any politician that is pro-abortion doesn't deserve to be elected dog-catcher. I am a one issue voter when it comes to someone supporting baby murder.

and if he is pro-abortion - he liable would be against killing soon-to-be-born puppies!

On a more serious note: would I support a person who is pro-abortion?
Depends - for your example of a dog catcher - would not make a difference as his position has nothing to do with abortion.
Currently, abortion is now a State/Commowealth issue - - Now if it came to the point where two candidates have identiacal stands on issues - except abortion then I would make that a consideration.

If a person is too stupid to know that a baby in the womb is a person who has the right to life, then they are too stupid to be caring for any form of life, IMHO.

Sadly, it seems that we are forced to vote for the lesser of the two evils these days.

I would not say they are stupid - rather they have been brained washed by others; it is effective because of they are led to believe it could be advantageous for them as an individual. (Example - abortion is ok because then I don't have to drop out of college....." - just to make it clear - I am not justifying what they (think) they believe - but just trying to understand their point of view.

Yeah, I see your point. The Rev. Kathryn Ragsdale, Dean of Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, preached a sermon: 'Abortion Is A Blessing', since deleted from the web, citing reasons as in your example.
