Pastor's quote on Obama

I hope nobody loses their lunch over this, but the Obama's made one of their rare appearances in church yesterday on Easter. The Pastor, Dr. Michael Bell, made the following statement about Obama, he is "the most intelligent, most anointed, most charismatic president."

In a sense the pastor is right. Look at how many people BO has fooled!

ROFL. Remember G. Bush's defenders on his not going to church often. If you don't remember here is a quote:

Around Washington, D.C., it's considered bad form to point out that Bush doesn't regularly attend church. "You don't have to go to church to be a good religious person," argue his defenders.

If it was bad form not to point that out about Bush, is it bad form now?

Didn't you nearly rupture a spleen in another thread over posts you said were "off-topic?"

Does your intellectual dishonesty ever enter your thoughts?

This isn't about Bush. It's about Obama, and those who worship him (especially "ministers," though I use that term loosely).

Do you have anything pertinent to add? Or is re-direction the best you've got?

Fair is fair. If you are going to criticize one president then all presidents are fair game on the same subject. I was simply showing that what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Oh, that is right, to some G. Bush is above criticism.

By the way, how about telling others who derail threads with questions totally off topic the same as you told me. Thanks in advance.

At the risk of rewarding you, an intellectually dishonest poster, for derailing the thread....I've criticized Bush on numerous occasions. You're familiar enough with these threads to know that. But...of course...I don't expect an admission of such.

And why are you worried about what I tell others? Why don't you use good forum etiquette and set an example for us poor, backward, stupid folk, and stay either on-topic, or off the thread?

Now...back to the topic at hand: have you no problem with the "minister's" description of Obama?

(or will you continue on your intellectually dishonest track, and attempt to further derail a thread for which you have no cogent response?)

He also called him "our black president" and said, "God has His hand all over you, Anyone would be foolish to come up against him."

This part that's bolded and the "most anointed" comments are quite scary to me. I do agree that he's one of the most charasmatic presidents we had - otherwise he'd not have gotten elected, honestly. But when a minister says what he said about him being so special to God, when he clearly stands against God, well then, we can see how the antichrist will be able to win hearts.

Now before y'all start looking into this as some sort of deep-hidden, agenda-driven, Messiah-complex, pulpit-driven proclamation...... Can't ya see what this really is? It is unashamed, brown nosing of the highest order. Remember the evil queen from Snow White? "Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who's the fairest of them all?" The mirror knew on what side its bread was buttered. "Why queen, you are the most intelligent, most anointed, most charismatic..."

It isn't that Bush is above criticism, it's that we've already criticized him and don't see a need to criticize him every time we discuss Mao-Bama.

I do not remember, have you ever criticized Bush?

Actually my quote was not a criticism, just pointing out that Bush didn't go to church that often and it was considered bad form for people to mention it.

I chose poorly when I used the word criticize in my earlier post. I should have said "Some here do not want Bush mentioned as doing the same as Obama.

It would be interesting to see how often other presidents went to church. I remember Harry Truman was quite a regular attendee at a Baptist church in D.C.

Of course, now if a president goes to church all kinds of hoops have to be jumped through for security reasons. If I were president I would have worship services either in the White House or at Camp David. How about you?

Well, I'm guessing the President didn't write the pastor's sermon for him. Probably didn't even send over a speech writer for him to borrow for the day.

Ya think stuff like this might be one of the reasons the Pres doesn't show up at church regularly? That combined with the unrelenting scrutiny of my young children would convince me to stay home.

Crabby, I agree with you on that point. If I remember correctly , that is one reason the other annoninted president - Ronald Regan did not norally attend public churches due to all the security required.

I remember shortly after his ignauration, it was mentioned he would normally attend services at Camp David. (If I recall, the Chaplain was Southern Baptist)

But the OP was not about BO attending church, it was about what the Pastor
said about BO. From post # 1

Why can't we discuss Obama without discussing Bush? The last time I checked George W. Bush is not currently the president, but rather Mr. Obama is. Why, then, in a thread discussing Mr. Obama, do we see Bush brought up? Is there some connection I'm failing to see? If you started a discussion on Bush (W.), would it be valid for me to suddenly bring in something pertaining to Clinton?

Salty, I didn't comment on the preacher's comment. I guess the preacher can say anything he wants ... within some type of reason. The most intelligent, the most charismatic ... that is debatable really do not know what the preacher means when he said "the most anointed.

I remember the story about Kennedy when he hosted a state dinner for Nobel price winners. He is reported to have said, "Do you realize we have more brain power in this room than at any time in US history, except for when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

While Bush was president, when he was criticized by the democrats, Clinton was often brought up. But, now, Bush is off limits, strange.

I thought at first the purpose of this thread was to instigate discussion about pulpit "endorsements." But neither wing seems interested in that aspect. Currently there is a church in Florida getting flak for posting a sign that said "No homo mayor," as one mayoral candidate is an avowed homosexual. If there is no 501.c.3 problem with praising Obama (who, unless he gets bumped off, will run for a second term), there should be no question about that Florida church either.

Huh? That's a bunch of hogwash. People didn't bring up Clinton to the extent they are bringing up Bush.

If there is a discussion on the differences in, say, Presidential policy, then bringing up the former president is totally valid. The problem arises when every single, and I do mean every single, discussion of Obama involves Bush bashing, whether it relates to him or not. It is ridiculous.

Bush deserves much valid criticism, but it is beyond ridiculous the level of which bashing is being leveled on him. We can't have one discussion about Obama without someone bringing up Bush. I'm sick and tired of it, myself. A preacher says some things about Obama which are being discussed, and someone makes a post regarding Bush not regularly attending church while president. What does that have to do with anything? That would be like discussing Bush's policy towards the Taliban in the days following 911 and someone bringing up how Clinton used to jog a lot.
