Pat may have one more run in him, but he won't do much better this time than he's done before.

I'm all for winning the war on terror. But what is it? Where would we go? We were on the right track when we almost took out the Taliban in Afghanistan, then we got distracted by Bush's ambition to conquer Iraq, a desire he and Dick Cheney had long before 9-11. The war in Iraq has been a costly diversion from the war on terror. In terms of stemming terrorism, the result has been less than zero, after spending billions.

I agree that the Hezbollah attack on Israel afforded Bush an excellent opportunity to prove he really wants to fight terror. Unfortunately, we are tied down keeping Iraq from erupting into a civil war. No terrorists were defeated there. In fact, terrorists seem to be operating fairly freely in the world while the US is tied down in Iraq. Thank God the Brits had their eyes open.

At least Buchanan is honest. He hasn't been elected to office yet, so his promises haven't had a chance to turn empty.
