Politics before country!

Toomey admitted in an interview that expanded background checks went down to defeat because Republicans opposed the bill out of a desire to deny the president a victory. Here’s what Toomey said, according to a write-up in the Times Herald:

“In the end it didn’t pass because we’re so politicized. There were some on my side who did not want to be seen helping the president do something he wanted to get done, just because the president wanted to do it,” Toomey said.

From the quote: "There were some on my side who did not want to be seen helping the president ..."

Hmm, I wonder who those other Republicans are

You're a nosy poster, email him and ask. Don't do like you usually do, and use this to derail the thread, something you're good at.

This is NOT de-railing this thread. I asked a very interesting question
and I have no ideal what you mean by "nosy". This is an open thread. Seems like you think I should not be involved.

Normally, a statement made by a BB member should be backed up by a credible source. However, in this case, I don't know if my question can be independently confirmed; other than emailing Toomey

I will say, that Crabby started a very informative thread.

The less "victories" Obama has, the better for our country.

The light is beginning to shine on Obamacare and Benghazi, and people seem to be waking up to Obama's lack of leadership.

The truth of the matter is that Obama's gun control bill went down to defeat in the US Senate because the Democrats in the Senate were divided on the issue and could not muster 60 votes even with Republican turncoats when the Democrats already had 59 votes. The Democrats handed Obama this defeat.

Now if you want the Senate to change the rules and do everything by a simple majority, that is fine with me. However, I doubt if the Democrats had a simple majority because Harry Reid yanked the bill after it got 54 votes on a test run. Those votes were free but when the chips were down Reid had to see that the Democrats were abandoning ship or he would not have yanked the bill.
