Pelosi asks Trump to reschedule SOTU because of the shutdown

I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29th,

Nancy Pelosi wrote in a letter to President Donald Trump.

But privately, Democrats also don’t want to give Trump a major platform to blame them for the shutdown when Trump's demand for billions in wall funding has been the main driver, according to a Democratic lawmaker close to leadership. Trump has tried to pin the blame on the shutdown on Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, but public polls shows the public largely blames the president.

IMO there will be no postponement and Nancy may even be asked to recapitulate concerning "the wall".

Nancy Pelosi wrote in a letter to President Donald Trump.

Here's how I'd answer her:

Dear Nancy,

Only to address this showdown with a live open nationally broadcasted debate between you, Chuck and I.

Sincerely,
President Donald Trump

P.S. Send your children to bed before the debate begins.

Yeah, I can't imagine he would, but it was rather clever of the Dems to suggest it. .

Not to me.

I believe it presents Trump a golden opportunity to portray democrats as the childish and purely political creatures they are. Democrats can cancel the venue, but not the speech.

Trump should book the biggest stadium he can find in a state that's friendly and fill it with 100,000 screaming Americans, and give the SOTU to them. To heck with the democrats and the childish games.

The Secret Service has come out with a statement saying Ms. Pelosi's letter is a falsehood and that they are fully prepared to provide security for a State of the Union speech by the President. The egg on her face has arrived.

I think most people already knew she was lying. But it's nice that it's public and confirmed.

She's just being petty.

The first time in like 100 years that a President has been dis-invited from a State of the Union speech. The woman should be ashamed of herself and if the Republicans had any backbone they would seek her removal from the Congress for her disrespect of the duly elected POTUS. Imagine if a Republican Speaker had done that to Obama?

Oh, I'm not saying they will win this, but I don't think this is their final move, and they have the MSM to brainwash the masses.

I'd love to see Trump address the nation as the government, aka "we, the people," and ignore those lying wingnuts who are trying to ignore him and destroy America.

I say don't give them the speech ahead of time, but let them guess and collude without it. Or better yet, give them the wrong speech, complete with all the fake facts they love to critique. Oops! Guess you got the wrong draft.:Whistling

Sen. Rand Paul suggests if Pelosi doesn't invite Trump as House Majority Leader that McConnell should have the Senate host the speech.

Personally, I could do without it. Just go back to the written method of delivering the 'State of the Union', in use up until 1913. There's only been a handful of SOTU addresses that have been noteworthy. For the most part they are political stagecraft.

GROUNDED: Nancy Pelosi Tried to Go Overseas During the Shutdown, President Trump Just Killed the Trip

"...President Trump sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday afternoon informing her an upcoming taxpayer funded, military escorted trip overseas has been postponed.

"Dear Madame Speaker. Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over. In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event it totally appropriate. I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown. Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative," President Trump wrote...."

At least their letters have been civil, so far.

Well, that may be an option.

OK, but this is now a very special case, and speeches are already being made. Where are all the popcorn jokers? This one is shaping up to be intriguing entertainment at its finest.
