I see your points, and understand.

I'm just not sure that the context of the discussion fits reality. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. When the "controversy" grows skin and bones for a person, the absolutes become less so, and that's where I am right now.

Before I had a beliefe in Hell. I had a wait and see attitude toward God and religion. I had no motivation to look toward God and what He required of me. It was alot of fun to just do my own thing by my own rules. Only when I realized that I did not have the oppertunity to wait until I was dead to look toward God, when I realized that when I was dead it would be to late because I would be in Hell. Only then did I become interested in God.

What part does your background play in this particular experience, though? In modern terms, talking about Hell to someone who simply rejects the concept out-of-hand is, to them, a laughable and nonsensical act. I know more than a few teenagers who have been completely turned off to Christianity by a "witness" who began, "You're going to Hell because you're (fill in the blank; the one that made me angriest was "Catholic")!"

At least this guy isn't "beating Hell" out of people, if you see what I mean. His approach is extreme, perhaps, but it should at the very least instruct the Evangelicals/Fundamentalists to the extremes of their own views and actions.

I compleatly a turn or burn witnessing tactic is not apropriate or effictive. The person yelling on the street corner that you all are going to burn in hell if you dont repent does not work.

But while talking about the love of God and what He has done for us. I think it is important to mention the punishment God has saved us from. I think somebody should at least be made aware of the reality of Hell and told it is a real place. They can then be told how God loves us and provided a way for us not to be sent there.

I see what you are talking about the REPENT OR BURN IN HELL FOREVER yellers. I agree that is not effective. But dont swing so far the other way that we dont even mention or believe in hell during our witnessing.

It might be refreshing, but it's not biblical. And it's not an attitude, it's a theological doctrine.

It is not either we talk about the love of God or we talk about hell. We should give the full message, which is that because of the love of God, Jesus came and atoned for sins and saves us from the wrath of God on sin.
