I am having difficulty understanding what your objection is. The goal of both Christianity and Mohammedanism is the conversion of the world's population to each' religion.

"Conquest" is not the same as "conversion." The belief in individual soul liberty, held by most Baptists and many other Christians, is not often (ever?) a part of jihad - "convert or die" (or just "die") is the more common action. The goal of jihad is an Islamic theocracy led by Muslim men. I believe the only earthly Christian theocracy will be led by Christ.

How often is Scripture likened to a sword, or do we sing "Onward Christian Soldiers", etc? Christianity is filled with militaristic references.

I don't know your exact reference to Scripture being likened to a sword, but I know that Hebrews says that Scripture is sharper than a sword, just as Superman is not advertised as a bullet but as faster than a speeding bullet.

As for the reference to the old hymn, I suppose that the religious left started attacking that hymn long ago--I remember that complaint from the mid 1950s. But it is merely a hymn and has no theological standing and I doubt if Pope Francis has ever heard it since Argentina is such an oppressive state where the Iranian murders of Jews at the Israel embassy and at a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires have been covered up by two or three Peronist Presidents.

To say, as the Peronist Pope did that Christianity wants to conquer the world for Jesus militarily as Islam wants to conquer the world for a demon named Allah is a political statement from this Peronist and not a theological statement unless you can show that Christians are not being murdered daily by Islam and that Christianity is based upon something other than Love for Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Why should I worry about Jews and other non-Christians when they are lost in sin and bound for Hell for what they believe, no?

CMG- There is little that I agree with held by the Catholic Church, so do not think that I like his theology. I just see a similarity between his statement and the same type of militaristic things that I have heard from other parts of Christendom since I was a child.

When you say that the Great Commission is like jihad, the burden of proof falls to you. You have presented no evidence that Pope Francis is correct that preaching the gospel is like jihad.

And, no, Pope Francis, a Peronist or an Argentine admirer of Mussolini, is way outside of Catholic dogma. It is my guess that western journalist are in line with your own theology and are not critics of the Pope. The criticism is coming from conservative Catholics and those in Latin America opposed to communism and fascism. Recall that Pope Francis is close friends with the Kirchners and others in the Peronist faction who accepted money from Iran after Iran attacked the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires and the Jewish cultural center in Buenos Aires, not to mention the murder of Nisman, the special prosecutor. The Pope has not spoken against the murder of Jews in Argentina.
