Oh, yeah, those poor oppressed Christians...do everything without complaining or arguing - until someone treads on your toes...I wonder how they'd manage if they ever faced any real persecution.
I forgive you for being so woefully ignorant of both history and the current world situation.
Thanks
Then I forgive you too for misunderstanding me
Christians are vigorously persecuted and frequently killed in many countries today, especially Muslim and Communist countries.
Oh, I know. My church has a strong missionary commitment.
It's in America that the Christians tend to be self-focused wimpy whiners...some of them, anyway.
True Christians face real persecution with courage and faith.
Yep!
Whether we persevere or get killed, we do so confident that God's will is being carried out - just as many, many Christians down through the centuries have done when faced with real persecution (such as being crucified or fed to the lions in the early decades of Christianity; no group of people has ever been persecuted any worse than that, but it couldn't stop God's Church).
I understand. But I think American Christians look at those situations and think that having their toes trodden on is 'being persecuted'. Quite frankly I think that does great disrespect to any Christians who are genuinely suffering and being persecuted abroad.
However, since our trials make us mature, I daresay that missionaries on furlough, if they come back and wonder what American Christians are whining about, just keep it graciously to themselves. Sometimes that's what maturity is all about.
Yes, not being allowed to do a report about Jesus in school is a relatively minor form of persection.
Ok, you do see my point then. Thanks for agreeing on this
But please remember, we're not talking about adults in those situations. We're talking about KIDS, impressionable children who are being given the message from important authority figures in their lives that there is something wrong with them because Jesus is important to them. In places like China or the Sudan, where there is no freedom, this would be expected. BUT IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN IN AMERICA.
Why not? Jesus said "In this world you WILL have tribulation"
It sure makes it easy to explain the spiritual battle to kids, if they find that in 'utopian' America, people object to reports about Jesus. Don't you think it simply plays into the hands of Christian adults trying to explain to children how we are in the world but not of it? Doesn't it give them the perfect opportunity to say that we are in different kingdoms spiritually?
I would have thought so!
And if the Bible is true, I'd say it IS supposed to happen - it's exactly what Jesus predicted! Isn't it?
When it does, when innocent children in this supposedly free country are made to feel bad for being Christians, it DOES merit a little righteous anger, and a LOT of willingness to fight back. You are right, however, that we shouldn't get TOO angry, and should use a loving approach as much as possible.
Again I'm glad you see my point and agree on this - to some extent, at least.
And, of course, not forget to forgive.
That is easy to forget at times but very serious since if we don't forgive, God won't forgive us - so the Bible says.
Happy 4th of July to you,
Walguy
Fwiw, you'd probably like my church...a bit before I joined they went door to door looking for support
against opening a gay registry in my village...(it was opened in the end because the referendum vote was in favor of opening it)
