I was wondering about the level of diversity belief on Baptistboard.com regarding the age of the earth. You may choose multiple answers.

I'm on my phone using TapaTalk I so can't see the poll. My usual answer is more than 12,000 years old and less than 1 billion years old. In other words, I don't know.

Other than what scripture say I have no idea how old the earth is... I think if God wanted us to know he would have told us... All we can do is speculate... But I do know how old eternity is... Ageless... Brother Glen:Biggrin

Not exactly 6000, as per Bishop Ussher, but would see it in thousands, not millions, much less billions!

The earth is about 6000 years and 7 yom.
yom might be day but also might mean ages.

In Genesis, it must.
Why,if God could do all of creation at once that 6 yoms?

6 micro seconds, six trillion years... whats the difference to eternal infinite God?

His choice was 6 days and personally I like six solar or sidereal days.

Maybe later He will tell me something different but for now for me 6 days (and a 24 break on the 7th).

Jesus confirmed the validity of scripture.

John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

Jesus confirmed the first marriage happened by the creation of the first couple, Adam and Eve.

Matthew 19:4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Scripture testify to Eve being the mother of all the living; hence the original and only couple multiplying that the entire human race has come from.

Genesis 3:20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

Even the nation of Israel recognized that all humanity came from Adam as their one father and then even referred to the fathers of the covenant in regards to Israelites defrauding one another.

Malachi 2:10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?

The genealogy of Christ's going all the way back to Adam... should give enough of a clue as to how old the earth is; check out Luke 3:23-38 with how old the age of the saints were before the flood in Genesis 5:1-32 in tallying that up.

Someone had done it, and I am assuming they did it correctly that it tallies up approximately 6,000 years in spite of contentions about the genealogy because Luke's reference stems from Mary's line but by acknowledging Joseph's as the husband since they only refer to men in genealogy, while Matthew 1:1-14 refer to Joseph's line from Abraham as 14 generations for why there are discrepancies in the blood line.

I do not want to get in arguing about genealogy but the gist of this is... the earth is really not that old as that false science says it is. They certainly cannot prove it when they get errant dating results per their dating methods, like a "living mollusk", carbon dated 2,300 years old "dead".

I believe in the non-changing words of Jesus's over the ever-changing words of the evolution theory, thanks to Him.

There us no biblical correlation of the age of the earth and the age of man.

The earth, along with the rest of the universe, was created prior to day one. Man was created on day 6.

There us no biblical correlation of the age of the earth and the age of man.

The earth, along with the rest of the universe, was created prior to day one. Man was created on day 6.

Then day one would lose its meaning as well as day 7, the day God rested from creation.

Notice that the sun and the moon and the stars were created on day 4.

Genesis 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

That was when God created the heavens to give light on the earth to govern for times and seasons. So you have to read verse 1 as stating a topic of a paragraph as the following verses is going about how the event in that first verse had happened.

Genesis 1:1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Then at the onset, light came into the universe that is about to be created, starting with the earth.

Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

No other light was there in that universe that first day as that day was governed by an evening and morning that first day by that light where the earth wasn't even created yet.

The second day, God created a water planet, separating the water from the water.

The third day, the one land continent appeared on the water planet's surface and with it vegetations, bearing fruits and seeds already.

Each day was evening and morning by the light before the heavens were created to have celestial bodies give light to the earth that fourth day.

So there was nothing before the creation of light that first day which the earth was formed by the third day BEFORE the heavens were created to give their lights to the earth that fourth day.

Day one has meaning as does day 7 when God rested from His labor in creating the heavens and the earth of verse 1.

Not at all. On day 1 He created light, then God completed His creative activity on day 6 and ceased His creative activity on day 7.

Yes, we all know that.

That was when God created the heavens to give light on the earth to govern for times and seasons.
No, that was when He made the light bearers to be the point source of the light He made on day 1. The creation of those light bearers concentrated the original created light in order that the light could serve its purpose to mankind. The word in verse 14 is מארת meaning to make luminus or a luminary. The word in verse 3 is אור a related word that means the light itself.

That doesn't really connect there, brother. Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven is way different from let there be light in establishing the day as evening and morning each and every day.

God created the light sources to give their lights to govern the earth that day. That means the source of the lights and the space between the source and the earth is filled with that light to "illuminate" the earth that evening and morning that fourth day.

The "light" being singular on day one was to establish day one as evening and morning that day.
