That's right. I am placing a prayer hedge around all of my brothers and sisters on the BBF. Please take every precaution possible to remain virus free. And if you happen to get the virus, remember to seek out the prayers of those who love you and care for you here on the Board.

If you get the virus, feel free to right me me ar airskypony@aol.com and ask me for prayer. Be sure to put the words, PRAY FOR ME Pastor Paul in the subject box. I will add you to my prayer team list and join you in getting better.

I don't believe you have that magical power.
I know you mean well, but God may very well ordain that Christians, even myself, get struck down by Covid19.
I appreciate all people praying that God would graciously keep his elect healthy, but I also believe God brings plague, suffering and grief into a Christians life to help discipline our faith and make the light of the Holy Spirit shine bright to a dark world. How we respond to adversity is different than the hopeless sinner. If you want to pray for safety, pray it for the godless neighbor who will die in his sins. I know my destination. I know my King has me in the palm of His hand.

So, while I understand your sentiment and thank you for your concern, please pray for those around you who need God's grace to save them from their sins.

Peace

In other words, and in far less words, you're saying prayer is useless.

I disagree. Prayer is a means by which the Spirit of God guides our thoughts and tunes us with God's will. When we are in tune with God we do not ask amiss.
There is nothing better than to be in lock step with the Spirit of God.

Good grief, someone offers prayer and another wants to debate it. That happens when your eat up with cage stage.

Nope, that happens when the sentiment is well meaning, but misplaced.
I hope the OP prays for everyone and goes before the throne of God to seek God's gracious kindness toward everyone.
There is no "hedge" that a man can pray around someone as though it were a magical incantation. A man can only go before the throne of God and make petition to the King and rest in the Sovereign will of God. God will make His perfect choice for each of us. He may not protect us from Covid19 no matter how we plead. If He chooses to grant us Covid19 and even bring us home through the effects of the virus...God still remains good and perfect in his choice.
If God gives me Covid19, then pray that He will use it for His glory. Pray that the godless will see the peace of God that surpasses understanding. Pray that it becomes the means by which the Godless come to faith.

This is my point. I did not speak up to deny prayer or to be contentious. I speak up to express how I would like the OP to pray, should God will it that I get Covid19 and have to go to the hospital.

I appreciate the sentiment of the OP. I see prayer differently.

Thanks for your response. Before you completely dismiss the blessing of a prayer hedge to protect you, may I suggest you peruse the following link! Would love to know your thoughts after reading that! Psalm 91 Prayer of Protection and Hedge of Protection Prayer

I agree completely with what you've said and I think you make some really good points.

But, at the same time, you might want to check that bathwater for a baby before you throw it out.

Franky, as someone who God got out of the charismatic nonsense, phrases like "hedge of protection" make my skin crawl. But it's OK to take our desires and our wants to God in prayer, as long as we understand that the point of prayer is not to persuade God, but to bring our wants and desires in line with His.

It's true that God may allow some to get sick and even die. But, in spite of the charismatic-y phrasing of the OP's prayer, I'm sure he had nothing but the best of intentions and I think to pray for someone's health and safety is a worthy prayer, even if we do not know if it's God's will for that person to be healthy.

Psalm 91 was Jim Elliot's favorite verse. His wife, Elizabeth, collected Jim's diary and called it, "In the Shadow of the Almighty." I highly recommend it.
Jim Elliot was martyred in the Amazon jungle of Equador, along with 3 other missionaries when a tribe killed them when they attempted to share the gospel.
God used their death to spark a generation of missions. That tribal group, by the way, came to faith. The person who killed Nate Saint became a second father to Nate's son.
Psalm 91 is a blessed Psalm, but it isn't a hedge of protection against bad things happening to Christians. It is a reminder that our home is in heaven.
Let us spend less time praying saints out of heaven and more time praying sinners out of hell. Those who need "protection" are the godless who will spend eternity in hell. May God's judgment tarry for them in hopes that God's redemptive grace would abound.
Jim Elliot had a gun nearby. He refused to use it on human life. He would rather spend eternity in glory than kill a man bound for hell.

I appreciate the sentiment of your op. I don't view prayer as my magic incantation to protect and ward against evil. I trust God to perfectly bring both the evil and the good for his eternal glory.

Peace

I agree that righteousdude has nothing but the best of intentions. For that, I am grateful.
