Premillenial vs Amillenial

My interest in end times was what the Lord used to lead me to salvation. I used to be into the Nostradamus & J Edgar Casey stuff before I was saved. After I became a Christian I was discipled at a IFB Church that was pre-trib, pre-mill. Recently though as I study Reformed doctrine I have begun to read much on the Amillenial position. From what I gather this was the position of the Reformers and preachers like Spurgeon & Edwards.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a resource where there is a side-by-side comparison of the two positions. I would even be interested in seeing the postmillenial position as well, thought I don't see that being embraced by many.

Spurgeon was an historic premillennialist. Reformed theologians are split between amill and post mill.

Thanks Jim. This is one area of study that has thrown me for a loop. There are so many different viewpoints, but it is definitly something I need to finalize a viewpoint on. I have been able to work through soteriology, ecclesiology, etc very well but have been at a impasse with this for a while. Thanks for the references I will definitly check them out.

I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to settle your mind on a viewpoint. I have been at it since 1945 and I am still thinking the panmill position has more truth.....whatever the Lord wills will pan out.

I lean to the amill viewpoint, but I can see the other's point of view as well, except dispensationalism.

Keep in mind, that many a fine Christian has parted company with another over eschatology: the second coming and its details.

Go to www.reformedreader.org and click on "Baptist Resources" on the left, then go down to "Theological/Resource Charts" and click on "Three Millennial Views". This chart shows side-by-side the views of postmillennialism, amillennialism, and the three brands of premillennialism(historic, dispensational, and progressive dispensational).

One of the best general resource books is Bible Charts and Maps by Thomas Nelson. It compiles all the graphs, charts, maps (like one comparing the milennial views) from a number of their study Bibles. Covers all the Bible and a gajillion topics.

500 pages, all freely reproduceable and the book is less than $20. A really good deal.

I also agree with Jim... This has been my field of study for more years than I can remember... Eschatology IMHO is one of the most exciting doctrines in the scriptures!

My personal position on this is amill preterist and like Jim said you have to come to your own view after you have throughly studied them all. I can't begin to tell you how many times over the years I have burned the midnight oil.

I might mention a book I found very useful... Revelation Four Views A Parallel Commentary by Steve Gregg... Which covers Historical, Preterist, Futurist, and the Spiritual Approaches. You should be able to order this at any bookstore or online.

Speaking of online there is a library of information on all these views on the internet. If you just type in what you are looking for in various search engines... I use google.com you will be surprised at what you will find!... Hey you found the Baptist Board!... Embarking on the eschatology sea of discovery?... The untold buried treasures for the taking!... I remember this gem I found in Matthew... Nevermind just reminiscing... I could go on until this same time tomorrow night?... Brother Glen

It is compiled and edited by Steve Gregg and contains four different parallel interpretations of Revelation, ver similar to that of a parallel Bible. Premillenialism is very popular right now, but it's a matter of opinion, not of biblical revelation. The things said by those who say the end is coming soon have been said by people for over 1000 years, and so far they have all been wrong.

One of the reasons it's so hot in the pulpit is because it also sells books.

I don't think Jesus will come in my lifetime. Chances are that I will die an old man in my own bed, as my forefathers have done for thousands of generations before me.
