Thanks, Baptistbeliever for your thoughtful reply. I think we will still have to agree to disagree. I'm still reading through 'Stupid White Men' and Moore, leftist or not, makes a heck of a lot of sense. IMO, as far as Bush is concerned:

1)He and his cabinet are all from big business and have vested interests in big business not poor people.
2)He rigged the election in Florida with his brother Jeb. There is soooo much info on the web and in books for this one that anybody who disagrees has to ignore the facts.
3)He has cut funding to schools
4)He has family links with the Bin Laden family who have backed him in business for the past 20 years
5)Alleged family links with the Nazi regime of WW2
6)He was doing business with the Taliban prior to Sept 11th
7)Refused to sign the Kyoto agreement that most of the rest of the world subscribed to. He reasons were garbage to say the least.
8)Refused to reduce arsenic levels in drinking water
9)Refused to make motor manufacturers increase fuel efficiency
10)Went AWOL for a year while in military service
11)Has the higest execution record for any state governor, including those who committed crimes whilst still children and the mentally retarded. His execution policies are matched only by countries such as China, Iran and Iraq.

Please answer the above or just accept that he bows to big business (1,4,6,7,8,9) and shows a massive lack of ethics (2,3,4,5,6) , further he is a coward IMO(10), and last of all has shown himself to be of dubious moral fibre by executing the mentally retarded.

If any of these allegations are true, we're all in big trouble being led by this guy into war.

If any of you can come up with links refuting this stuff, please let me know.

And, Wisdom Seeker, I'm sorry if the little spat with Mike has upset you. Both of us are Christians, but Christians can profoundly and passionately disagree on issues. This is one of them. I've hinted at possible reasons for this on my "Cross-cultural differences " thread on the general discussion board. In Britain, we have a long tradition of healthy scepticism which some may regard as disrespect when it comes to our politicians; you only have to look at a few of our satirical pubilications to see that. For instance 'Private Eye' lampoons Blair as the Revd Blair of St Albions and Bush as the Revd Dubya of the Church of the Latter-Day Morons. So disrespect is part of our political scene; I'm sorry if that upsets some Americans, but that's the way it is here.

And yes, I am praying very hard for our troops and yours - I have close friends who are out in the Gulf we have half a dozen naval bases round here that could be the subject of terrorist attack; indeed, my fiancee's apartment could be blown up by a bomb blast insuch an incident, so I'm exteremely concerned

    Yours in Christ

    Matt

Of course his cabinet is made up of business alumni. Who would you prefer? Basket weavers?

What would you like for him to do about the poor? As president, he can only act in accordance with what the Constitution allows. The Constitution says that "the poor" is a matter for the states to take care of, not the federal government.

It's irrational on your part to criticize him for not doing what he doesn't have permission to do in the first place.

OK, I'll bite. How did he and his brother rig the elections? You are aware that virtually every official involved in the elections was a DEMOCRAT, aren't you?

Remember, it was the DEMOCRATS on the state supremem court who jumped in and tried to derail the election. It was DEMOCRATS who tried to stop the counting of absentee and military ballots. The leaders of the election commission were DEMOCRATS.

Not true. Federal spending for education has risen steadily since 1998.

Second, Bush should cut federal spending. Under the Constitution, the federal government doesn't have the authority to spend money on education. It's a state matter, not a federal one.

And what might these links be?

"Alleged" being the key word. Even if it were true, so what?

We're talking specifically about George W. Bush. If you have a problem with Prescott Bush, dig him up and take it up with him.

    Yeah...and?

So what? Most of the rest of the world doesn't even have indoor plumbing.

The agreement wasn't in our best interests and placed tighter restrictions on us than it did on other countries.

Good for him for not signing it.

His reasons were that it wasn't in the best interest of the U.S. 'Nuff said.

Not true. This was a manufactured campign issue invented by the Sore/Lieman campaign.

Arsenic levels are well within the parameters considered safe and there's no evidence that they needed (or need) to be lowered.

Good. He doesn't have the authority to do that.

    Not true.

There's no evidence to show that he was AWOL. During the time he was supposedly AWOL, he was on temporary duty assigned to the Colorado National Guard.

He didn't execute anyone. These people were all duly tried and convicted by a jury of their peers and were sentenced to death in accordance with Texas state law.

To say that Bush executed them is just stupid.

Please show some proof for your claims or just accept that you're an idiot.

    Fortunately for us, they're not.

Rather than fringe political groups, how about supplying us with unbiased news sources?

    All the while disparaging them.

As per Brother Murph, am hanging up the closed sign. Further debate on this topic can be taken down to one of the "debate" forums.
