President-Elect Trump Plans an Endless Tax on American Consumers as an Added Feature of the War on Drugs

"Trump ignores the fact that illicit drugs are largely smuggled by US citizens through legal border crossings and sold to US citizens. He also misses the fact that tariffs are taxes on American consumers, not on foreign countries.
...
The Times reported that Trump believes China can do a better job stopping the flow of Chinese-made fentanyl precursors to the transnational drug cartels located in Mexico, where they synthesize fentanyl in underground labs. But fentanyl precursors also come from India, Myanmar, and other parts of Southeast Asia. If China cracks down on domestic precursor labs, that means increased business for dealers in those countries. Waging a war on drugs is like playing a game of whack-a-mole.
...
What’s more, cracking down on fentanyl precursors may hasten drug traffickers’ shift to nitazene trafficking. Nitazenes are more dangerous and potent than fentanyl.
...
In 1983, President Ronald Reagan famously said:

We and our trading partners are in the same boat. If one partner shoots a hole in the boat, does it make sense for the other partner to shoot another hole in the boat? There are those who say yes, and call it getting tough. I call it getting wet–all over.
We must plug the holes in the boat of open markets and free trade and set sail again in the direction of prosperity. No one should mistake our determination to use our full power and influence to prevent anyone from destroying the boat and sinking us all.
President-elect Trump intends to shoot holes in the bottom of our boat until Canada, China, and Mexico some way, somehow, help us win the endless war on drugs."

I think Washington State decriminalized most drugs a few years ago. Look up how that’s going.

The federal government has been fighting the War on Drugs since I was kid back in the 1960s. Look up how that's going.

The federal government has been playing whack-a-mole and losing and losing and losing and losing. It is an unwinnable war.

The government has been waging war on all crime: stealing, burglary, assault, rape, murder. Etc

It’s still going on. Is it not a war worth fighting?

Peace to you

Living in a civil society means folks will cede their right to revenge and allow the government to enforce laws.

When the meth addict breaks into a home, doing $10,000 worth of damage to steal $50 worth of goods to fund his habit, the homeowner trust the government to protect him by arresting the person and locking him up.

Otherwise, it is pure anarchy with everyone doing what seems reasonable in their own minds to protect their families and property.

Peace to you

China is producing the ingredients for fentynal and shipping it to the cartels by the ton, knowing it goes into the US, destabilizing our society and killing hundreds of thousands every year.

It is an attack by a foreign nation designed to weaken the US.

DJT will hit the Chinese where it hurts and they’ll stop.

Additionally, he will build that great big beautiful wall to keep the drugs and illegals out of the country, and then deport about 20 million back to their home countries.

Thank God for DJT!!!

Peace to you

Obviously, stealing is a crime. It is should not be a crime to eat or drink something because someone else doesn't like you doing it. I don't like it when people commit fornication, but I don't want it be a crime.

Why are they doing so, or any other country? Because there is a demand for the product. Trying to stop a product is a losing effort as long as there is a demand to be met. Just look at what happened in the United States when an attempt was made to outlaw alcoholic beverages. It failed. Why? Because the demand for alcoholic beverages was still there.

killing hundreds of thousands every year.

Those who are using the product, on the demand side of the equation, are causing their own deaths, not China.

It is an attack by a foreign nation designed to weaken the US.

It is a meeting a demand by people in the United States for a product.
DJT will hit the Chinese where it hurts and they’ll stop.

No, it won't. The demand for the product will be there for fentanyl, or for the next product after fentanyl.

The War on Drugs can never succeed as we have seen over my lifetime; the demand has gone from one product to another product to another product to another product.

Additionally, he will build that great big beautiful wall to keep the drugs and illegals out of the country

Won't work, especially for drugs.

then deport about 20 million back to their home countries.

The Eisenhower administration tried that in the 1950s, Operation Wetback. It was a mess, and finally abandoned due to it failure. If Trump tries this again, it will also be a mess, and finally be abandoned due to its failure.

Those that want to legalize all drugs never consider the consequences to our society. I’ve heard the argument it’s same thing as making it illegal for fat people to eat ice cream.

Fat people aren’t burglarizing homes to feed their ice cream addiction.

The government at the State level has a role in preventing these crimes including locking folks up. The government at the federal level level has the obligation to keep it out of the country as best they can.

DT will save lives by these actions.

Peace to you

Consuming something should not be a crime.

The government at the federal level level has the obligation to keep it out of the country as best they can.

The federal government has been failing to do so for decade after decade after decade after decade after decade. It will continue to fail to do so.

The federal government couldn't even stop alcoholic beverages from being produced within this country when it tried to do so.

Should consuming child p:rn be a crime?

To make all drugs legal would lead to anarchy and the collapse of our society.

It was attempted in Washington State and they are now repealing those laws because of the consequences.

Peace to you

I understand that we are not going to agree on this issue; I am a minarchist and you are not for a minimal federal government, such as existed in the United States prior to the 20th century.

So, you don’t think possessing and consuming child p:rn should be a crime, only creating it?

Really?

What about a drug dealer encouraging children to take narcotics? Should that be illegal?

Peace to you

Didn't say that. I'm saying that creating it is worse, and should be handled on the state and local governmental levels.

Yes, handled on the state and local governmental levels.

Situations involving children are different than situations involving adults.
