Q. What's the difference between a Democrat and a Republican when he says he plans to reduce deficit spending?

A. The Democrat will actually attempt to reduce deficit spending.

An administration official said Obama was proposing to cut the deficit, which private economists project will rise to $1.5 trillion this year, through a mixture of tax increases on wealthier Americans and spending cuts.

The spending cuts would be great and I commend him if he does it. Increasing taxes on the "wealthy" however is a proven loser. Time and time again it has been proven that lower taxes brings in more revenues. It is spending that is the problem not to few taxes.

Neither taxes nor spending are the REAL problem. The desire of gov't to be your nanny is the bottom line, so no matter which party is in, you will see a steady decline of freedoms & property rights in this country.

The only difference is the Ds will do it faster and uglier than the Rs, but the same end result is inevitable, sans the direct intervention of God.

Not that I disagree, but that is really off the topic at hand.

Considering Obama's deficits this year and next will run well over a trillion dollars, cutting them in half shouldn't be any problem.

Ok - let me get this straight. The Dems just jammed through this gazillion dollar spending bill that increases all sorts of social spending that most likely will never go away. They will want to fund it year after year just like all the rest of their social spending.

This is in addition to whatever deficit they come up with in the regular budget.

They are already saying that they want to do another gazillion dollar spending bill.

But the plan is to cut the deficit spending in half the year after Obama's term ends?

Let me guess, the promise of only spending half a gazillion dollars more than they take in every year in addition to the gazillion dollar off budget deficit spending is the carrot to get me to vote for Obama for a second term?

If Obama cuts the deficit in half, it still will be more than the deficits that Bush ran, and Bush's deficits were horrible.

Economy crippling taxes are on the way.
You can bet on that. On top of that, the near trillion dollar Republican bailout last year and the Democrat this year will never work. Two trillion dollars spent on nothing.

This year's deficit will probably be close to 6 Trillion counting the war and the giveaways. Cut that in half . . . big deal. Yesterday's paper had had some kind of govt press release claiming the deficit would be a trillion a year for the next TEN years.
