Lesson for today's ill-wishers

Liberal journalist repents for wishing Justice Clarence Thomas dead:

Background

on PBS all-female talk show To The Contrary, November 4, 1994

Julianne Malveaux: "You know, I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease....that’s how I feel, he is an absolutely reprehensible person."

2011 - Julianne Malveaux apologized:

"It has taken me nearly two decades...to understand the damage that my wisecrack might have caused...to the public discourse"

"my comment about Clarence Thomas was not only uncivil, it was ugly and unnecessary....I regret it. I apologize for it. I wish I could take it back."

It’s in the LORDS hands

I must say that it is, but I am shocked. I am no fan of the President. I find his character deplorable for a man claiming any status among the Brethren. I like some of his policies. That said, the first scripture that came to mind today was,

Proverbs 24:17-18
17 Do not gloat when your enemy falls,
and do not let your heart rejoice when he stumbles,
18 or the LORD will see and disapprove,
and turn His wrath away from him.

I also was then reminded of,

Matthew 6:14-15
14 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.

Later I was reminded of,

1 Timothy 2:1-3
First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in [a]authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the [c]knowledge of the truth.

That led me to,

Job 31:29-30
29 If I have rejoiced in my enemy’s ruin,
or exulted when evil befell him—
30 I have not allowed my mouth to sin
by asking for his life with a curse—

I am praying for our President. God commands me to pray for rulers, praying for Him is a prayer for me, it is a sin to rejoice at the disaster of even an enemy, and I should ask for no one's damnation. Also, if he is a wicked man at heart manipulating Christians for power, something I cannot prove but suspect, then I am not standing in the way of God's wrath, whatever His judgment is, with my response.

I don't see Trump manipulating Christians, believers who support him like his policies, which is why the support him as POTUS.

Trump is not your enemy, Steve. He may not be a believer (yet), but certainly not an enemy of Christians or the Church. In fact he's an ally. He's got rough edges and sins, but he also has some macro values that are admirable. Sometimes we get caught up in demeanor and miss other important virtues. I firmly believe Christians acknowledging this and showing appreciation can be a powerful testimony to him.

Thank you. I need to explain myself. I thought of that scripture, but I did not consider President Trump an enemy. It was the scripture that I recalled first. That post was written without the thought that President Trump is my enemy. I meant that even an enemy deserves love, let alone President Trump.

For a matter of public record, I only believe President Trump is an enemy of the Faith if one of two were true,

1. He is in fact a raper, as some women claim, or some equivalent criminal and is lying to save his skin.
2. He is a closet scoffer to Jesus Christ, but believes in some Creator God, and only wants to manipulate evangelicals to get our votes through pandering and a divisive culture war.

I do not have enough evidence to prove 1, and 2 is a matter of the heart, so I can't know. I cannot prove either 1 or 2, so I move on with thinking of him as a politician lacking the character I would like but with some policies I like and others I don't. Unless Biden turns against the godless wing of his party, I have no desire to support him. Being in league with those openly against the Cross of Christ is that damning.

Actually, I almost qualified that, thinking you were speaking more generally, and not of yourself, per se. Appreciate the clarification.

I think Trump just likes Christians and likes America. That's the conclusion I've come to. I think many Americans feel this way. They may not be sure about Christianity thing, but they like the effects. That's definitely preferable to hostility.

And the Dem party is on a scary path. It's moved from ungodly to demonic. I'd like to see it get back to ungodly.

That could very well be true. Thank you for explaining your position. I think many Christians hold to it, and it explains why so many Believers support President Trump so much.

I just realized that I think the best way to help the President know Jesus Christ as savior and Lord is to be honest and upfront when the President does something sinful, being loyal given he is due honor for being one of our chief rulers, while praising him when he stands for something good, such as fixing the laws in regards to the family or abortion.

John the Baptist's ministry to Herod comes to mind, as does David needing people like the prophet Nathan to know his status before God. I feel that many Baptists and other evangelicals just paper over things with our President, when we need to be faithful critics of sin, loyal to our commander in chief, while being supporters of the good he is doing.

And the Dem party is on a scary path. It's moved from ungodly to demonic. I'd like to see it get back to ungodly.

Agreed. AOC, Bernie Sanders, liberal Christians, and the godless members of the Millennial and Mosaic generations are leading that party into scary waters. I used to say the two parties were supportable by Christians because they had complimentary virtues. Dems cared about the lowly as God has commanded, while Reps understood social values at the heart of the created order. Moderate Dems, like the establishment wing, might still match that statement, but let's face it. Biden is fairly liberal compared to previous Dem candidates, and he is an anomaly compared to the real future controlled by Bernie and the so called "Progressives."

Couple of things
1) Trump has surrounded himself with several evangelicals.
Granted we may agree with everyone of them - but it is a start

2) Trump certainly has had a storied past
but recently, he has cleaned up his act.

Lets continue to pray for him - not only for - now his health but
that he will continue to do a good job.

An update from Trump's physician.

I release the following with the permission of President Donald J. Trump.

This afternoon, in consultation with specialists from Walter Reed and Johns Hopkins University, I recommended movement of the President up to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for further monitoring. This evening I am happy to report that the President is doing very well. He is not requiring any supplemental oxygen, but in consultation with specialists we have elected to initiate Remdesivir therapy. He has completed his first dose and is resting comfortably.

Someone noted that the people who want the government to be in charge of everyone's healthcare are on Twitter wishing that their political opponent would die in the government hospital.

Oh, the irony. Talk about "what goes around comes around," if they do get their wish, the favor will be returned... upon their own heads a million-fold. :Rolleyes

Innocent until proven guilty. No, I don't just "Take their word for it."

That is interesting.

I don't take their "word" alone initially, for it either, and know that both real and illegitimate acts are used as a political tool.

But don't you remember at one of the debates with Hillary, when Bill was there, that candidate Trump
paraded, at the debate itself, and on camera, a number of those women who claimed were violated by Bill?

Bill never went on a real trial (other than in the press) for any of that so I guess you could say he is innocent too.

Trump leaving Walter Reed. Tweeted:

"I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!"

SGO has a good point. You'll notice I have not acted like the President is guilty, merely considered it a reason he could be an enemy of the Faith. My suspicion does not lead to me acting, even in terms of my vote, without more proof.

I'm praying for him multiple times a day and I am concerned. Phase 1 of symptoms are mild. Phase 2 has respiratory issues. President Trump is entering phase 3 where the body inflames as it destroys all the dead tissue caused by fighting the infection. I would not for myself be willing to go home until out of the woods of phase 3.

How does coronavirus kill? Clinicians trace a ferocious rampage through the body, from brain to toes
