President Trump Struck a Deal with God?

In his inaugural speech, President Trump claims that the United States will be protected by God.

That's an interesting claim. Why would he believe and promise such a thing? (Serious question.)

I found that interesting also. It immediately reminded me of the German soldiers belt buckles in WW I that read, Gott mit uns ("God with us"). The implication is "God is on our side."

Perhaps he was simply playing to the bulk of his voters.

There was te dastor who clamed God had showed to him in a word of knowledge that Trump would be next President, due to God. maybe God is really in all of this?

It may be for judgment.

2 Thessalonians 2:11-12
For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.

I do not disagree with Trump often but in this regard he can't be right. America has turned so far from God I am surprised we have not had more 911's!

Could be , or could also be God answered prayers of His people, and interven to save us from Obama lite!

Of course God was involved with this election. just as He has been involved in every election going back to George Washington. All that means is that Trump's is God's vessel to do His will, just as Obama and Bush and Clinton and Bush and Reagan etc. were.

I do not elevate the title of “God” to describe an inclusion of Satan for those who believe not in the Light of the Gospel. Therefore, my claim of One God stands. ;)

He invokes God for His protection then for His blessing.
At least he didn't ask God to curse America and blaspheme.

I wrote the OP before the President had even completed his speech, so let me give you the context from the transcript:

The Bible tells us, "How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity."
We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity.
When America is united, America is totally unstoppable.
There should be no fear -- we are protected, and we will always be protected.
We will be protected by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement and, most importantly, we are protected by God.​

He apparently begins this part of his thoughts by identifying the United States as "God's people." Then he moves to how America is unstoppable. Then how we as a nation should have no fear because our military, law enforcement and God Himself protects us.

(1) Why does he assert that God will protect the United States? From the context, it seems to be because he believes we (nationally) are God's people. I'm trying to figure out if there is another way to interpret this.
(2) My question about a "deal" was a bit tongue-in-check since he has cast himself as "the Great Dealmaker" and was wondering aloud if he somehow thought he had a deal with God for him to make the bold assertion that God is protecting our national interests.

So we have a President who has an Inauguration that references Jesus Christ constantly, talks of uniting under God and wanting His protection over the country and this is something to be concerned about? Really?
