"A man's free-will cannot cure him even of the tooth ache, or of a sore finger; and yet he madly thinks it is in its power to cure his soul.

The greatest judgment which God himself can, in the present life, inflict upon a man is, to leave him in the hand of his own boasted free-will."

- Augustus Toplady

Toplady also understood how those opposed to the gospel might react to Biblical truth:

"Many of the enemies to God's truths, when they are silenced by the force of evidence, do, like a snail provoked, draw in their horns and spit."
Well said Mr. Toplady, well said. :Thumbsup

@Silverhair: The source for this post from X is supposedly Michelle Rempel Garner, a Canadian Member of Parliament. Can you shed any light on this? Thoughts?

"Canada’s Liberal Regime Moves to Censor Free Speech Ahead of Election!

As Trudeau’s government faces a possible election, the Liberals are ramping up their war on free speech—proposing even MORE censorship to silence opposition and control the narrative.

Senior Liberals are openly discussing banning X in Canada—a desperate attempt to eliminate independent voices before the election.

Bill C-11 & Bill C-18 already restricted online news, leading to a government-controlled narrative.

Bill C-63 (‘Online Harms Bill’) would allow the government to jail citizens for ‘thought crimes.’

Conservatives are demanding financial transparency from unelected Liberal leader Mark Carney, but mainstream media is burying the story.

A direct assault on free speech!

@realDonaldTrump @POTUS – Canada is heading toward full-blown authoritarianism. The Trudeau regime is actively silencing voices before an election."

@JDVance– Imagine this happening in America. Censorship at this scale is the hallmark of tyranny.

@elonmusk – Trudeau’s Liberals are seriously considering banning X in Canada to crush opposition voices. Will you stand against this?

Let us help Canadians, fight back!

Stay informed & spread the truth!"

The Republican Tariff Act of 1890, commonly known as the McKinley Tariff, was a failure.

The Republican Tariff Act of 1930, commonly known as the Smoot-Hawley Tariff, was a failure.

There is every reason, based on history, to expect the Republican "Tariff Act of 2025", just call it the "Trump Executive Order Tariff", will also be a failure.

Financial markets like stability and certainty, not putting tariffs on and then take them off 8 hours later and then putting tariffs back on and then delay them for a month, etc.

Also, Donald Trump is probably the first president in U.S. history who seems to be welcoming putting the nation's economy into a recession with all of the pain it would cause for the American people.

Imagine being a Republican and running in 2026 with your slogan being, "Yes, our guy put the economy into recession and we're proud of it!"

Excuse me, but deconstructing programs meant to assist people and prop up our infrastructure is the wrong way to approach “Making America Great Again.” The factual data has shown that for all DOGE efforts, they haven’t even scratched the surface. And their ineffectiveness is showing. Jon Stewart suggested alternative targets (post #267) but the Administration (if you could actually refer to them as that) hasn’t as yet woken up to effectiveness & efficiency. So let me suggest some simple efficiency 101 class principles for these geniuses that have proven to work….start with the 80/20 rule. 80% of your profit comes from only 20% of the activity. Identify the 20% and ignore the rest. Next, outsource anything that isn’t critical to the bottom line … need I explain that in more detail? Next, regarding effective planning & productivity, make management focus on what they can effect NOW to make sure its being done right. That’s simple stuff that is proven to work to drive up numbers and something I added into my business plans forever.

If DOGE targets big Pharma who sucks up a significant amount of American tax monies vs the Vets admin & Medicaid / Medicare then you will have tagged a very fatted cow. And there is your 20% target right there! Also stop the support of proxy wars, maybe not completely but ratchet it back. This proxy war stuff is expensive and is rapidly driving us into bankruptcy.

The constitutional mechanism to do changes to government spending is the Congress, not a president acting as a de facto king through ruling by executive orders and declaring national emergencies.
I fervently believe the man to be an atavism. Whether he was molded in childhood that way or merely born that way I don’t know nor do I care but I’d never turn my back on him nor trust him or his sycophantic staff for an instant. I do feel that your opinion of Trump is an accurate description of him which makes him even more dangerous to the country. I must confess that he makes my skin crawl when I even think about him and his clumsy governing of this, my country… I fear that the damage will take years to correct. Oh well, my wife & I just returned from a meeting with oncologists at Memorial Sloan Kettering… it’s a battle that right now we can’t win as there is no cure so I just need to focus more time with attending to her…ultimately this is in Gods hands.

Gods pease to you my brother.
