"Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, released the below statement following the U.S. Department of the Interior’s announcement that more than 13 million acres in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A) would be withdrawn from oil and gas leasing...

'This is yet another example of this administration caving to the radical left with no regard for clear direction from Congress or American energy security. Let’s be clear — this is another attempt to use executive action to circumvent a law to accomplish what this administration does not have the votes to achieve in Congress.' ...

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 mandated two lease sales of not less than 400,000 acres within the Coastal Plain of ANWR. The first sale was held in January of 2021 and a second sale is required to occur prior to December 22, 2024."

Let’s see. Did Manchin blast the administration when they stopped the key stone pipeline? I just can’t remember.

Did Manchin blast the administration when they raided our strategic oil reserves and then sold millions of barrels to China?

Seems Mr. Manchin is in a tough re-election bid and thinks it’s time to distance himself from the administration he has supported for two years as the economy tanked.

Time to vote him out.

peace to you

Did Manchin blast the administration when they raided our strategic oil reserves and then sold millions of barrels to China?

"Today, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Ted Cruz (R TX), Angus King (I-ME), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Mike Braun (R-IN), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), John Hoeven (R-ND), John Boozman (R-AR), Joni Ernst (R-IA), John Cornyn (R-TX), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Rick Scott (R-FL), Mike Lee (R-UT), Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ) introduced the Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act. The bipartisan legislation would prohibit the sale of American crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to any company under the control of the Chinese Communist Party and prohibit the export of any crude oil from the SPR to China.

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed similar legislation by an overwhelming, bipartisan vote of 331-97.

“The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is a vital piece of our nation’s infrastructure that bolsters our energy and national security. While the reserve has been a policy Band-Aid for rising gas prices and the global unrest caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the reserve is, above-all, meant to help the United States and our allies through difficult times, not to help China power its economy. This bill would ensure that we are not risking our energy security by selling our petroleum reserves to China, and the bipartisan support this legislation has received shows just how important it is for America to be energy secure and independent,” said Chairman Manchin.

“The Strategic Petroleum Reserve was intended to ensure that America had sufficient oil reserves in the event of an emergency. Under no circumstances should we sell any part of this stockpile to the Chinese Communist Party or any company under its control. We need to immediately act to stop this from happening in the future and unleash American energy, and I’m proud to work with my colleagues and Sen. Joe Manchin on this important, bipartisan issue,” said Senator Cruz."

Funny. I knew even before reading it that the "prominent Democrat" was Manchin. He's soon to be either not prominent or not a Democrat. He has wielded outsized influence because of the slim margin of the Democrats in the Senate. He will either switch parties or be defeated or make some quixotic run for president in an attempt to remain relevant.

I think he may be part of the No Labels presidential ticket if, as it looks likely at this point, the two old, dilapidated, past their "use by" date, major parties saddle the American people with an insipid rerun of Biden vs. Trump, a rerun that the vast majority of the American people do not want.

I know that it is politically chic to discount the idea that No Labels could get around 35% of the vote and win 270 electoral votes, but if they two major parties continue with their insipid rerun of Biden vs. Trump, I certainly hope that No Labels will pull the trigger on their effort(they are already getting on state ballots, as here in Arkansas, to be ready if needed) and deliver a good whooping of the two old, dilapidated, past their "use by" date, major parties that belong in the dustbin of history. And, if not winning, at least receive enough votes to cause the two old, worn-out major parties to fear for their futures.

Thanks for the info. The difference is between the words “blast” Biden and “urge” Biden. Introducing legislation that fails doesn’t inspire confidence.

Remember, the repubs in the house voted dozens of times to repeal Obama Care, knowing it would never pass the Senate and/or get POTUS signature. When DT won in 2016 with the house and Senate in repub hands, “conservative” Speaker Paul Ryan refused to bring to a vote the same bill they had passed dozens of times.

Both parties disrespect and manipulate the American people to stay in power.

Manchin gave a “yes” vote based on a promise from POTUS and Schumer they would support a pipeline in his home state.

After he gave his “yes”, the Dems went back in their word. It was repubs that put support for that pipeline back into legislation.

Trump won his state by 30 points (?). He’s in trouble for re-election.

peace to you

Well, I was trying to come up with a word and that is what I settled on. If it was the wrong word, I apologize.
I’m not trying to be contrary. Manchin is a democrat. When they needed his vote in the Senate.

Now he wants to appear to be fighting against this admin.

I don’t buy it.

peace to you

I understand. I am no fan of Joe Manchin or any other current member of the U.S. House or U.S Senate.
This country needs a viable third party to control one or all positions…. House, Senate, POTUS.

More wishful thinking, I know.

But then, hope springs eternal… or so I’ve heard.

peace to you
