Thanks Hank. This still however is not making any sense.

The man deliberately went out to chop wood. This was a blatant refusal to keep God's Sabbath, which was promptly and decidedly dealt with. I don't think reefing a sail is the same thing. I don't think God's law was that, "If you're freezing cold, and it's the Sabbath, TOO BAD, FREEZE!" That's tyrannical, and seems to be how the world paints God and His Sabbath. That idea does not go along with a God of love. However, He does speak of preparation for the Sabbath in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. For the cold, it is wise to prepare the wood which you plan to burn on the Sabbath Day, so that no work is required in keeping it lit.

Not really. The Jews claimed to love God, but they mainly rejected Him. The churches are in a terrible state, as Jerusalem herself was. If they truly love Jesus, they would do what He said. Of course, many people are ignorant towards the Sabbath truth. But when the light is made known, and we ignore that light, we can and will be held accountable. Remember, as the days of Noah, and as the days of Lot, so will be our day. And how few were saved in their day?

The assessment isn't moronic. We are judged by the light we are given. The Protestant reformation has shown that there has been much hidden in the Scriptures that was not shared by the Roman Catholic Church. Was every single soul before then lost? No. They simply didn't have the light. God winked at their ignorance. Today, we have the light, therefore God commands all men everywhere to repent. I am not SDA, but I am not declaring that every soul that didn't keep the true 7th Day was lost. I am declaring, those who knowingly and willfully reject the Sabbath, if they have seen it as fully as God has declared they should, then if they refuse, they will be lost. God cannot allow a soul into heaven who willingly lives in disobedience to Him. Whether it is adultery, murder, theft, or breaking His Sabbath. They will not enter into His kingdom.

Let's apply the same logic to adultery. Everyone on this board who lusts after women in his heart, forget about anything Jesus has done on the cross, it's up to YOU to keep God's commandments and save yourself. It's absurd to apply this logic to any commandment, and that includes the Sabbath. We keep the commandments because we are saved. We can keep the Sabbath, we can refrain from lusting, because we are saved, not to try to get saved. No man can obey without Christ's help. But with Christ's help, we can do all things.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Yes it is confusing I inadvertently left something out let me restate the statement which is derived from the Book of Hebrews: :)

Hebrews 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.

we enter into the "Christian Sabbath" by interring into the rest provided by the finished work of Jesus Christ (It is finished).
we cease trying to please God with our own works by entering/accepting His rest.

    Matthew 11
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

This rest is 24/7 into eternity.

You will have to elaborate on this more. "If they have seen it as fully as God has declared they should". What does this mean? Let's use myself as an example for you. I have studied the scriptures for twenty years, daily, haven't had too many days I have missed. I have deliberated the Sabbath with SDAs many times and still I do not see the Sabbath as you do. So, is God not giving me this Light? Or is the Scripture the Light?

And what did Jesus say about the sabbath? The only times he is recorded as saying anything about it were the times he was confronted about it.

"My father is working until now, and I myself am working."
"It is right to do good on the sabbath."
And he refused to criticize his followers for picking grain, pointed out the pharisees will still get their ox out of a hole, and referred by comparison to David and his guys eating the bread that was only for the priests.

He certainly said nothing like what sabbatarians say today, and when he enumerated commandments he never mentioned that one, nor did the later NT writers.

What it is a 'wedge issue--' a we're-right-and-everybody-else-is-wrong thing, to feel better about yourself and boast in your own 'righteousness.' A mark of cults, to say it plainly. So if anyone points out Romans 14:5-6, that it's up to the individual to regard one day above others or to see all days as the same, you will nullify that one for OT scripture and strain to make NT scripture-- "...obey my commandments"-- conform to your own view.

Doesn't the Bible say that we must "labour" though to enter into that rest?

Hebrews 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

How would then labouring, and keeping the Sabbath as Christ did, specifically keeping the 7th Day Holy, be a work one should "rest from" while somehow trusting in the merits of Christ? This logic does not apply to any other of the 10 Commandments. I do not "rest from" saving souls as "Thou shalt not kill" states. Why should I then "rest from" "Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy"?

Jesus criticized the Pharisees for being overly stringent on the 7th Day Sabbath. There is nothing wrong with satisfying one's hunger while walking through a field. This we agree on. However, we disagree on this fact: It would in fact be a sin if they were actually grabbing baskets of grain, harvesting, and taking them back to their place. Jesus never indicated the Sabbath shouldn't be kept. He cautioned against the extreme measures that people were prone to take. He showed the spirit of the law; and that Spirit of life finds no problem with God using His powers sustaining basic life, or performing miracles to bring souls the much needed rest.

Also, Romans 14 has nothing to do with the Sabbath. It is speaking about doubtful disputations. Obeying the law of the God of heaven is not a doubtful disputation. All the points within it are absolutely necessary for us to follow with due diligence.

Sorry, I will not judge your eternal state. God knows just how much light people have received upon certain issues. However, if one sees the Sabbath truth, and they then reject the truth as it is in Jesus and choose to honor a day of tradition instead of the day which the Bible openly and plainly states, they are straying away from Christ. Those who accept to keep Sunday when it is enforced by civil law instead of the Bible Sabbath will knowingly be honoring Popery over the commandment of God. For all such, there will be no more hope.

The pharisees' enforced demands were "overly stringent" compared to stoning the man for gathering wood on the sabbath?

One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

There is nothing excluding the sabbath in this...nor meat or any kinds thereof.

    Never asked you to...

So you lay it upon God as to how much Light He gives? So if one does not keep the Sabbath it could be because God has not wanted them to?? Does that really make sense to you?

Explain how one would see the Sabbath truth. Would this need to be some special revelation given by God? And why would God give some Christians this revelation and withhold it from others?

There are folks in love with God so much they have absolutely no idea what day they are in.

    Hey Utilyan,

Isn't this "God distributing different amounts of Light" doctrine taught by the RCC also?

The ThirdAngel and SDAs don't answer with Book, Chapter, Verse with their Sabbath Keeping or burn doctrine. They go by this God distributes Light and their given Light is what constitutes their belief that one must keep the Sabbath or be damned, not necessarily any written Word for we all have and read God's Word.
