Strong's says the first word in question means kindness and the second word in question means stability. A reasonable argument can be made for almost any difference between KJV and NIV. Personally I think Kindness and Truth (NASB) work best but that isn't one of the choices here.

I believe all the translators of the NIV were required to subscribe to inerrancy. I think there was some "to do" over the TNIV and whether they had the same stipulation.

But even at that, I am not totally convinced that this is relevant for accurate translation. A case could be made either way I suppose.

My main problem with the NIV is that it is DE. Personally I do not feel it is the best philosophy. Yes, all translations have DE to some extent, but that was one of the main philosophys of the NIV. It is a good translation, but I do not prefer it or other DEs.

> The NIV has undergone a sex change.

Steve, no need to spam the board. Posting once is enough. Posting the same thing in every thread is just plain ANNOYING.

By the way, you may be interested in Examples of gender inclusiveness in the KJV. ;)

Quote: "Me neither... and give the Devil his due (and I do literally mean the Devil), the KJVO's have a point when they argue that liberal higher critics contributed to the NIV. To the best of my knowledge, this is true and for me sends up red flags."
I am certainly no scholar in this area but there are 3 things that I observe:
1) There seems to be evidence that the "KJV" was translated by people that most conservative Baptists would reject as translators today.
2) Very often, when a Sunday School teacher or pastor reads the KJV to us, he then spends time explaining that it means exactly what the NIV says.
3) There is a tendency to say that the KJV this and the NIV says that.... then we assume the KJV is absolutely correct and criticize the NIV for changing. Could it be the reverse, the KJV is incorrect.
Which would be the greatest of these? Love ? or Charity?

Steve,

Here's a thought. Post something germane to the discussion the thread is intended for. Your posts waste everyone's time.

I'm done interacting with you, because you're obviously too self-centered to allow others to discuss specific issues without dumping your load of drivel everywhere.

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

The above promise from the King James Bible tells us that God intends to preserve His WORDS forever. Notice how the new versions destroy this promise by making you think the context is God's PEOPLE rather than His WORDS:

NIV....... you will keep us safe

NASB... Thou wilt preserve him

NRSV... You, O Lord, will protect us

REB...... you are our protector

LB......... you will forever preserve your own

NAB...... You, O Lord, will keep us

Sigh . . . more spamming from a KJV-onlyist without anything to say. [IMG]
