Vs 1 states "I will honor you highly, O Lord, because you have pulled me out of the pit
and have not let my enemies rejoice over me. (NKJV)

Do we honor the Lord only because he has done wonderful for us?

Or am I putting too much into this?

We hear that we are to love God for who He is, not for what He does for us, but that is a false dichotomy. God IS love and God DOES loving things and I cannot divorce Who He is and What He does. God is the gift He gives - when He gives us all things, He gives us Himself

Rom 8:32 "“He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?”

I believe you are injecting the 'only. Stated as is it can be one of many reasons to love the Lord. For example I love my wife because she is a cook, but that isn't the 'only reason.

Whether you are in the pit or on top of the hill, God is still God. If you can not honor God when you are in the pit you will not honor Him when you are on top of the hill.
