In Psalm 44 the Psalmist recounts the past and how God went before Israel to conquer Canaan. He then wonders where God has gone. He cannot identify any sins that would cause God to no longer go before Israel. Yet, Israel is being defeated and people are dying. Why? What is the cause? The answer is found in this verse.
"Yet for your sake we are killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered."
The tragedy and sorrow and even death is...for God's sake.
Wrap your head around that statement by the Psalmist.
Even the sorrow, tragedy and death we experience all around us is...for God's sake.
It seems to me we have two options. We can be like Job's wife and curse God. Or, we can be like Job and praise God when God brings the good and the bad.
For God's sake...
