Public School Spending: More Isn’t Necessarily Better

It's worse than you think. Per pupil, the USA spends more than anyone else in the world. Yet American pupils score last among the industrialized nations.

The real problem is that public education is a failure. Big cities have the worse educational systems.

The solution lies in giving each child a voucher to enroll where the parents like. Both Catholics and Protestants could establish high quality private schools. Parents preferring public schools could use their vouchers in public schools.

Also, one must look at John Dewey and the role he played in destroying American education.

In short, we are not getting our money's worth and our young people are not prepared to earn a living.

But why is public education a failure?

How involved are the parents?
Do they help their kids with homework
do they attend PTA meetings
Do they converse with the teacher(s)
Do they ensure their kids are prepared for school
ie - properly dressed, properly fed, have proper supplies,
Sufficent sleep,ect

Yes there are teachers who have no business being behind the desk
but we do have excellent teachers - who can only do so much

Part II of the question - Do teacher unions help or hinder our education system

As a non-educational employee, I posit a few remedies:
1 Eliminate the NEA
2 Eliminate teacher unions
3 Return ALL control of schools to local communities
4 Return in-house discipline to schools (with strict enforcement of course, and pre-approval from parents to discipline!!)
5 Reward effective teachers & remove in-effective ones (those whose PCism over-rides their concern for the education of the pupils!)

I'm sure there are others of which I am unaware but known to insiders!!

I'm convinced that only a return to God can ever accomplish any of the above, as any power returning to the Dems will trash any and all of the above!!!

I fully agree that the Fed govt get out of the education business
But how much control should the State/Commonwealth have in education?

I assuming you are referring to corporal punishment . I would want to be for it - but the only consideration is that some kids are truly beaten at home - and if you were to spank them (w/a hand, board, ect) that could cause additional problems. Now, most kids would be okay to do so, BUT if Tommy is to have the Board of Education applied to his seat of knowledge - he would want to know why Billy didnt get a spanking also - even thogh they commited the exact same violation.

5 Reward effective teachers & remove in-effective ones (those whose PCism over-rides their concern for the education of the pupils!)!

What kind of rewards do you think wold be appropriate?

It's worse than that. The teachers unions control the dialogue but they also control the system as both the unions and the government are in the hands of the liberals and progressives. John Dewey, the philosopher of American education, was a hard-core socialist. The local communities are just as bad. Where I live, very rich liberal Republicans control the system. It is a spoils system for them and their contractors, as it is everywhere. It is a pork barrel. That is not so bad per se as that is how the government has always worked and there seems to be no other way due to human nature, but it is a closed system with a siege mentality so that the wagons are always circled and anything on the outside that moves is fired upon. For example, it is likely that the siege mentality has helped preserve the teaching of Darwin and deep time all these years in every public school.

In short, the government monopoly must be broken. For example, is it really in the interest of white democrats, who have controlled blacks since the USA was a colony, to provide a good education to a group that they want to suppress and control even today? Indianapolis, for example, has a terrible educational system. Especially, Christians and Jews want more for their children and quickly could build good private schools if they were not required to pay high property taxes for low-quality public schools as well as substantial tuition fees to support their children in better private academies. Thus the key to reform Is a voucher for every child. Now some people want their children in public schools but what about those who do not?

Another reason not to send a human being to a public school is something that is becoming widespread in the West. That is, Islam is dictating the food served. They are calling for halal food, which in the case of meat means the animal is not stunned and the butcher says Muslim prayers over it. Why do we kowtow to these jihadi psychopaths, these perpetual stone-age enemies of civilization?

What do you think has already been practiced for many years in public schools in regard to Jewish student kosher requirements?

Do you think that Jews have been able to dictate to entire school districts that they eat kosher food the way that Muslims have dictated to entire districts that people have to eat their disgusting Halal food that has had Muslim prayers said over it? That is skirting food sacrificed to idols or may actually be that--I don't know.

Actually, that was somewhat the case when I went to school. With our county being 50% Roman Catholic -
on Fridays - the school cafeteria served fish virtually every week. (that was back in the day when RC could not eat meat on fri)

and now, I will not eat fish - because of that.

I never ate in school cafeterias because I came from a small town. Jews do not try to impose their diets on everyone else. I never met any Jews except Indianapolis doctors before I finished high school. As for the fact that my high school served fish on Fridays as a concession to the RCC, I think that it was a point of their limited budget that they only had one choice and many Catholics.

However, in the case of Islam, the jihadi psychopaths who populate Islam demand that everyone conform to their rules or else. They do not assimilate--you do. And the government schools will do whatever Islam demands and call you a racist if you do not conform. That is just another reason for the conclusion that government schools can never be successful.

Try NYC in certain neighborhoods, and see if they don't offer kosher foods to those requesting such.

I suspect that in today's climate schools would have to offer kosher, halal, or vegan options for those demanding such.

Okay, if Islam were able to dominate American thinking even more, then everyone would have to eat halal in the public schools because Islam teaches that everyone must conform to the perfect example of Muhammad and Allah. There would be no other options. So the American government would provide only one option in the public schools, which is another reason why there should be vouchers to help people find better schools than the public schools and their domination by federal rules and regulations.
