I have personally been troubled by several recent threads where members have expressed racial views that seemed, imo, to be contrary to Christian teachings.

I have noticed several folks expressed dismay that BB would allow such views to be expressed on the open forums.

I see one of the threads has been removed and another closed and under review.

I want to publicly thank BB admin for their action. I hope many others will agree. Perhaps this action will make debate more civil in this board.

I do not favor censorship. I appreciate views contrary to my own, but I also appreciate a gracious articulation of those views.

peace to you

I have been "corrected" many times, most of which I actually agreed with after the temp went down a bit.
Also there have been many posts never posted because I just didn't feel right about my "attitude" in same.
Can't say that I would change my points in any of my posts, BUT I sure could have been more Christ-like in my presentation!
Very few have I felt the mods were over-zealous (IE: picking on me) --- THANKS GUYS!!!!:Biggrin

There have been times that I immediately regretted something I posted and edited it. Occasionally, I just deleted to whole post.

Thanks for the comment

"Our community with one another consists solely in what Christ has done to both of us. This is true not merely at the beginning, as though in the course of time something else were to be added to our community; it remains so for all the future and to all eternity. I have community with others and I shall continue to have it only through Jesus The more genuine and the deeper our community becomes, the more will everything else between us recede, the more clearly and purely will Jesus Christ and his work become the one and only thing that is vital between us. We have one another only through Christ, but through Christ we do have one another, wholly, and for all eternity. That dismisses once and for all every clamorous desire for something more. One who wants more than what Christ has established does not want Christian brotherhood. He is looking for some extraordinary social experience which he has not found elsewhere; he is bringing muddled and impure desires into Christian brotherhood. Just at this point Christian brotherhood is threatened most often at the very start by the greatest danger of all, the danger of being poisoned at its root, the danger of confusing Christian brotherhood with some wishful idea of religious fellowship, of confounding the natural desire of the devout heart for community with the spiritual reality of Christian brotherhood. In Christian brotherhood everything depends upon its being clear right from the beginning, first, that Christian brotherhood is not an ideal, but a divine reality. Second, that Christian brotherhood is a spiritual and not a psychic reality."

Well said by Bonhoeffer and certainly applicable to our efforts on this board.
Thanks for the post

I have 3 members on "ignore", and it's because so many times these 3 seem to gloat in snarky remarks that really add squat to a discussion, and/or have such "lack of common sense" comments that many times, I felt, required an immediate response - usually not a very nice or calm one either.
It's amazing how I can read posts NOW w/out BP rising to dangerous levels.
It is also amazing how interesting & productive a discussion CAN be w/out (at least not known) the sniping from the few!!
IMHO of course!

I too have a handful of people on ignore. Mostly because they kept attacking me. That, and a couple who just really get on my nerves. I think one that I put on ignore was a really adamant conspiracy theorist--that was a few years ago, he might not even be around the board anymore.
I try to use any ignore/blocking features sparingly in general, but sometimes they are necessary.

I don’t “ignore” folks but usually will simply not respond if they get personal.

Thanks for responses all.

I hesitated for a long time to use the ignore feature. I can't here except I coordinate with staff because I am on staff, but on other forums the feature has transformed the site and made it edifying and enjoyable.

I learned that some members are abusive trouble makers. But I do not need to defend myself against them. Most members on these online forums recognize these people for what they are. So I have nothing to add and can very contently ignore them as they have nothing useful to offer anyway.
