The telling of what they saw and heard is the tradition. And actually, the term is still in common usage when referring to the Jesus tradition or pre-gospel Jesus stories and etc.

Right, I'm aware of this. But it certainly gives the wrong impression to the non-scholar, who thinks tradition (following the normal modern meaning of the word) is something old. :smilewinkgrin:
