Somewhat, I'm of third generation Italian heritage.

I wouldn't use the word "pride" but I do have an appreciation of the Italian culture, especially the food.

On the other hand I took a lot of verbal abuse in the military with the usual Italian heritage slurs.

To be honest I really didn't care, in those days before I was saved, I exchanged in like kind. Male bonding I guess.

Quite true. That was a left-wing propoganda show with the unexpected quirk that many people would actually come to like Archie Bunker. Or at least become aware that hating someone like him would affect others, like his longsuffering wife, who was kind-hearted to a fault.

But now, the corollary to the concept presented in the OP. Do any of us have pride in being a Christian? If so, it's not based on what we have done, and is a circumstance of having been around-- most probably grown up around-- those who were Christians. Certainly many have 'pride' in the church they attend and the programs and facilities it offers. For that, maybe we had a part in developing it, so it is something we have done. Is it wrong to have pride in or about anything at all, then, whether we've 'done it' or not?

Seeing that pride was the chief reason for Satan's fall we would probably do well to resist it or the word. Due to early Christian development I usually catch myself if I use the word pride and after enough diligence one generally begins to move out of the mentality that embrace's the concept of pride. I'm glad or I'm pleased are better expressions. If you are glad you are white in the U.S. that is fairly understandable since most of the establishment powerbase shares that with you if nothing else.
Also, why would one be proud of something they didn't earn?
