Racist GOP children

A black Democrat member of the Indiana State House of Representatives took to the House floor to complain that having been introduced to the family of a GOP State Representative, she found that the boy was a racist and needed some sensitivity training. It seems that the boy shrank from her and did not say anything. She said that it was if he had never seen a black person before.

In his defense, the boy's mother replied on the House floor that the boy is shy with everyone.

Is it possible to be racist at eighteen months?

First of all, that Representative needs to understand the definition of racist.

Pure silliness. I take it she doesn't know many children.

Our oldest daughter was a very outgoing child, who would practically leap into strangers' arms, our oldest son was just the opposite. He was very shy and introverted. Our other children were about the same as other children. Sometimes shy, sometimes not.

First, to assign such motive to a toddler is just crazy.

Second, let's say for a moment that she's right and the child was afraid of black people. Is an eighteen month old really expected to have that much experience with a wide variety of people?

If that's true, then wouldn't the wise thing be for her to use it as a learning opportunity? To show the child that black people are not something to be afraid of?

If this woman's story is true, it sounds like it's not so much the evil intent of a child, but the childish actions of a childish woman.

The boy is only 18 months, ehh? He was in an unfamiliar place, surrounded by unfamiliar people. Good night, the boy was in a state of sensory overload.

Most 18 month olds I know clam up and hide behind their nearest parent, usually their mother. Did the representive at least try to go into grandma mode? Sometimes that helps and sometimes the child goes into a mental melt down.

This is just a good example of the foolishness of assigning racism motives as haphazardly as it is done both out there and on this board. Such folly is astounding.
