I have never heard this particular group PC&D. That aside, I have studied a lot of theology and the UPC oneness doctrine is a cult and not part of orthodox christianity.

A Roman Catholic has more in common with a "baptist" than does a UPC. Sad fact, really not up for debate.

That said, I would appreciate the focus on the group and leave the "theological debate" over such doctrines to be a sideshow over on the Theology Forum!

BTW, you're all invited over there any time. Think this would be a good topic, so will start it (not related to music) over there!

I am not wholly familiar with them, having only one or two songs of theirs in my collection and hearing them on the radio once in a while. But I would judge them to be soft, middle-of-the-road pop with some pleasant harmonies. Drop by your local Christian bookstore and give a listen to their demo CDs. As long as they're being Biblical, you might like them.

"Turn Your Radio On" is Southern Gospel. The song PC&D did is "Turn On Your Radio".

And Kiffin, I do not like to admit that I am wrong, but I have been looking and researching and must say that I must side with you because facts are facts and you have the facts.

I know they are Pentecostals...don't know about the "oneness" thing...but wasn't Lanny Wolfe also of that sect, and he wrote some outstanding Christian songs that are still sung in IFB churches today and have blessed countless people.

I recently sang the Phillips/Craig/Dean song "Crucified with Christ," with my sister, and was struck with the power and truth of that song. It is a blessing to sing it and hear it. Check it out, if you haven't heard it.

I know the oneness thing is heresy...but how far do we go in repudiating it? First of all, I'd like proof that PCD believes this, and second, I tend to agree with Smoke-Eater... as long as this doctrine doesn't creep into the songs, I would tend to think they could be used to be a blessing. One would have to be use common sense, of course.

I refer you to the article in Charisma by J. Lee Grady, "The Other Pentecostals". The mention of PCD is a shade more than halfway down the page.

Ransom, since they are apparently Oneness Pentecostals, do you think mainstream Christians should avoid singing their songs? (They do write their own songs, for the most part).

    I'm just asking your opinion.

As long as the songs remain Biblical, I see no problem with it. You mentioned "Crucified with Christ," for example; their song "Shine On Us" is a personal favourite of mine, as well. I think both of these tunes could be sung with a clear conscience, as could anything that is simply a paraphrase of Scripture (Dottie Rambo's "We Shall See Him," for example).

Still, their affiliation is reasonable grounds for close scrutiny. I suspect that PC&D are not going to alienate their fans by singing songs that reflect the distinctive theology of their denomination (modalism, "Jesus' name only" baptism, etc.); in fact, their bios on their Web site are even purposely (IMO) vague about their affiliation. (I've heard some music by "apostolic" singers that would be patently offensive to orthodox Baptists, however.)

Somebody brought up Phillips Craig and Dean in another thread so I thought I'd bump this one because what to do with them is an interesting topic.

"Majesty" was written by Jack Hayford in 1981. He is a "Four-Square" pastor, not a "Oneness Pentecostal."
