Reaction to CCM and TCM

I'm with you on the volume issue, nodak. At our former church any time we had a singing group in I would cringe as I knew that it would be three times louder than it needed to be... and none of that was even akin to CCM. Too loud is too loud, no matter what the music style happens to be.

 

I'll have to agree too concerning volume issues. A measure of volume in no way equates to the moving of the Holy Spirit nor does it determine the level of one's spirituality.

I'll get on my soap box for a minute and share something that really bothers me. I see people who will in no way make a peep, raise their hands, or show any type of emotion or excitment during a regular church service (there is a scrowl even when a lost person confesses Christ). I can't even get an "amen." Yet, let a Southern Gospel group come to play and they are shouting "amen," raising their hands, smiling, etc. Somethings wrong their. I've also seen the same behavior when a CCM band came. Nodak, I understand some of what you are saying. However, music with a beat isn't the problem in my opinion. No music should be used to manufacture a spiritual encounter with God. I should be just as excited about Jesus whether it a band (be it Southern Gospel, CCM, Bill Gaither, etc.), or and old timey pump organ is used with the congregation singing from the old red back hymnals. I should be even more excited or moved by the preaching of God's word. I feel like the best time to shout or clap is when a lost person is saved or a wayward believer repents of his or her sin and returns back to the fold.

It reminds me of people who won't cross the street to share Christ with a neighbor, but will sign up for a mission trip to Africa to do it. Something's just not right!

 

I stay out of this, but over the Christmas season I've been to a few churches that has different music to me. When I speak I ask if I may pick out the songs and the answer has always been yes, when I don't I listen to what ever they do.
1. I've never heard the song before, so I sure can't sing along, even with the words shown on a screen.
2. I can't follow along because the music goes louder than the singers in over half of it, and I don't know where they are.
3. It isn't a style that I care for, I like to be able to hum along even if I don't know the words.
4. I even heard about 5 songs I knew but never played or song like it was then.
I found my self praying for the service and that folks would be blessed.
