Romans 5:11 NASB
"And not only this, but we also celebrate in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation"
When Christ died on the cross, His sacrifice of His life provided the means of reconciliation for the whole of humanity. But each individual lost person must receive the reconciliation by being transferred by God into Christ.
The reconciliation is received when God transfers the individual's human spirit out of being "in Adam" in the realm of darkness, and into Christ's spiritual body. This transfer is referred to using several different terms:
1) Sanctification by the Spirit, 2 Thessalonians 2:13.
2) Being "given" to Christ, John 6:37. Note the result is being "in Christ" because He says He will not cast the person out.
3) Called into the His marvelous light, 1 Peter 2:9
4) Believe into Him, John 3:16.
5) Baptized into Him, Romans 6:3, Galatians 2:27
6) Transferred into the kingdom, Colossians 1:13-14.
The result is the same, the individual is relocated spiritually to within Christ's spiritual body, and then indwelt such that Christ is within the individual. Thus the individual is redeemed, reconciled, justified, made perfect, made the righteousness of God, sanctified and saved forever, having undergone the washing of regeneration, being made alive together with Christ.
Baptists, at least the ones of the churches I have been associated with, believe water baptism symbolizes that spiritual baptism into Christ.
