Ok. He will be missed. There is a lot I don't like about Chick tracts, but I'd have to say that overall they did a lot of good.

Jack Chick, the cartoonist, whose tract This Was Your Life! was, and still is, one of, perhaps THE best, witnessing pamplets of all time, passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, age 92.

His tracts are found in countless public places, especially restrooms, all over the land.

I placed this thread in this sub-forum because Chick's later tracts became quite anti-RCC and pro-KJVO as time went by. While his early tracts were spot on, he began making goofs in his later ones, especially his KJVO ones. For instance, in The Attack, he suggested the Jesuits tried to slip the Apocrypha to the AV translators, to be placed in the Old testament as Scripture, and that, after the AV was completed, they poisoned or otherwise murdered many of the translators.

However, even though he became warped by his hatred of the RCC & belief of the KJVO myth, I believe he was a devout Christian who led many to Jesus thru his worx. Too bad he didn't stick with Christian-witness cartoons & tracts; he woulda led many more to Jesus. Still, my salute goes out to him, and prayers for his family & friends.

Um, why would you find it hard to believe? I love gospel tracts as a whole. There are just a bunch that I don't believe should be used (any that look like money, for instance). I leave tracts WITH a tip (as opposed to INSTEAD of a tip). I use them as an easy way to give the gospel when someone asks what church I attend. It has our address and phone number, so I just give them a tract. So, again, why would you find that hard to believe?

Apparently I was mistaken. I do not only use money tracts. I also use chic tracts sometimes. They are better than WOTM tracts for stuff like posting an address and phone number.

I use his tracts to pass to people on the streets and mail off to false churches. I ignored all his KJVO tracts. I believe he was filled with zeal but with little knowledge in this area. Jordan and other KJVO will disagree of coarse.

Roby, I agree with your assessment, and that has been my experience as well. His salvation tracts were great. But most of the tracts I read of his that were anti-anything (occult, RCC, cult, etc) had either uninformed claims, or downright lies. In another thread concerning Chick, this is what I was referring to when I said I disagreed with a lot of what he had, but overall I think he did a lot of good.

Although I'm not an unqualified fan of Chick tracts, one of them was very helpful, under God, in my salvation almost 30 years ago. I had been reading a lot of JW stuff and was tending to believe their teaching about the Lord Jesus. At the same time I had started attending a Bible study at my local church and although that was Trinitarian they didn't seem able to refute the Arian teaching of the JWs.

Then I read a Chick tract about JWs and a blood transfusion, and what it said made sense to me. I've read a lot of better stuff since then on the Divinity of Christ, but at the time it was just what I needed.

Well they produce some great tracts for progressive liberal false Christians.

For me, the bad outweighed the good. He made the gospel sound like crazy paranoia.

The evening I came to faith in Christ, I was immediately handed a Chick tract and told that it explained what I needed to know to live my life as a Christian (which was a well-intentioned ignorant lie).

I made it my top priority to read that evening and found it was a Communist-scare tract called Kings of the East that they stopped publishing because it predicted things that obviously did not happen.

The bad advice that set up Jack Chick as an authority in practical sanctification, as well as the paranoid delusion of the Red Chinese (the "yellow race" as he called it) invading Israel within the next decade (by 1988 - one 40-year generation after modern political Israel's founding) by the use of a "super highway" already under construction made me doubt that Christians were sane. I asked about it at church and was told that it was probably true. I wasn't familiar enough with the Bible to discern whether Chick was just paranoid or if such a thing were biblical.

Over the years I have met many people who have encountered Chick tracts and rejected the nonsense they read about Roman Catholics, certain types of music, "liberals" (non-KJVO folks), etc. and thought they were rejecting the message of Jesus.

I am not his judge, but I would not even think of using ANY Chick tract because they are all one body of work with a distinctive brand and theology. If you give him credibility in one area, many will assume you endorse the whole. If you are going to use tracts, there are much better tracts to use.

Evan, I have NEVER said I am opposed to tracts.
Your problem - is that you have a one-tract mind.

You need to be a bit open minded.

And for what it is worth - I ended NOT passing out any tracts that night at the youth center.
But before you jump to any conclusions- I want to to think about that statement, I made.

Loved the format of Chick tracts. Unfortunately, many were too often choc full of error to be of any real use, and using the good ones would be an endorsement of the entire set.

I often wished someone would have made a graphic novel version of the Book of Revelation without the interpretive spins. I finally found one published by the Catholics of all people.
