Recording voice files on CD ROM

Short answer... Yes. I do it often.

Connected to my laptop is an external sound card with a "line in" jack. On your PC sound card, there might be the same. I have a tape player connected to the "line in" jack. I use Goldwave to do my recording and editing. Whatever program you use should do the same.

I record each song (making sure the volume settings are good) and save them as mp3's to my hard drive.

It is time consuming, but form some of my older stuff that is no longer available, it's a great option.

For a phenomenal fee, I can do this for you...

 

The microhone jack doesn't work well for this. I bought an external hard drive from Creative to use with my laptop - works great.

As for the fee... PM me with how many cassettes and I'm sure we can come to some agreement. (It's really not that phenomenal!)

 

When I tried it, it came out real distorted.

 

I used the "line out" from the cassette deck to the microphone jack. Just didn't sound good.

 

Another idea. I use a Creative Zen V mp3 player. It has "line-in" and "mic in" capabilities. You can either use the cassette recording and record it through the line in or use a mic through the mic in to record the message. Then, connect to your computer, transfer the file to the hard drive, convert it to an mp3 file (your editing program should be able to do that) and then write it to a disc.

Or, you could talk someone into doing it for you.
